Night and Sounds- Boring and are they worth it?

by matt10gonzalez

All the night and sounds in Egypt are done very well: Excellent (and serious) voice acting, killer sound effects and spectacular lighting effects but honestly, it’s amazing in the intro but later on, it gets draggy and boring! No kidding! In the sound and light show in the Karnak in Luxor, I saw 15 people snoring (Not only kids but adults too!) and 4 smooching behind! So are they really worth your beautiful money? (Remember: You still have to pay another ticket for them!) Well...this will depend: What site of night and sound you visited, your moods, your interest (are you interested in the lights only, or the story only or both or even neither of the two!) and what are your activities for that night? Are you having romance for that night? Then it'll definitely be a blast! (Unless you fought and well, it's your business!) Here are some tips about the nights and sounds in Egypt! I've only...

The Papyrus Museum in Cairo

by michaelxxx

On our tour in Cairo, a man brought us to the Papyrus museum, they told us it would be nice and its worth it, so we agreed to to there. The Papyrus museum is a small atore that of a boutique . They show you how they make Papyrus and whats it made from. You'll see different Papyrus around the room and that's it!Once your done, they will tell you to but their Papyrus for a very expensive price. Some will insist, but we got away with out buying one. (You can simply but one outside for 3-5$) Don't go here, its a waste of your time, but some people who are curious to see how they make Papyrus art may go here, "DON'T BUT THE PAPYRUS THEY SELL YOU!" If your planning to go here, "DON'T BUT THE PAPYRUS THEY SELL YOU!" It is over price! Simply tell them NO! It will work, dont fall for their charm! (That's what we did!) Go to Khaka Elli, you will see alot of Papyrus for sale for a cheap price of...

Hagglers at major attractions

by kisschix

I am sure you have seen hagglers before. They are at every major tourist attraction in Cairo. It does become a bit annoying after a while but you just need to know how to deal with them. Follow these tips and you'll have no problem. We didn't. 1. If they try to hand you something do not taking under any circumstance. I walked arond with my arms crossed in front of my chest. They can easily put something in your hands withour you noticing.2. Do not pay attention to the hagglers. If you do, they will notice and try to sell you souvenirs at an insane price. 3. Do not take out your wallet. They will try to take your money in exchange for a souvenir. If you want to buy water from them, make sure to keep small bills in your pocket. This way you won't need to pull out your wallet.4. Even if they are friendly and want to take your picture, kindly walk away. The very nice picture you will be...

Horse Carriages- Better Let the Hotel Handle Them!

by matt10gonzalez

If you read the first tip above and read the MOST OBNOXIOUS PEOPLE IN EGYPT, I'm sure you're aware of the hassling (and sometimes obnoxious) horse carriages in Luxor. True, the horse carriages can be a pain, especially if you deal with them. The best advice is DON'T! It can be a frustrating (they'll over charge you), hassling (they'll argue with you) and even potentially scary experience (they'll take you somewhere far to the bazaars!). In short, best advised that unless you speak Arabic or are really THAT good, you'll never win with them. And US $6 for riding a horse carriage? I rather eat well in the Winter Palace!BUT! There is a way to ride them! If you wish to know, just read down! -Bargain well, but even if you do, you can't help if they'll still overcharge you. (Ours agreed to our price of US $6 in the beginning, but in the end, brought us out of town and hike it up to US $10! Of...

Luxor- it's NOT the Luxor you dream of!

by matt10gonzalez

Ah...Luxor! Home of a dozen of ruins and a thousand ancient years old artifacts! And also home to Egypt's biggest scam city! Okay, hassles and scams are everywhere in Egypt but it just seems to be much more (and worse) in Luxor! We got scammed, overpriced and hassled the MOST in Luxor. (Boy, does it drive you crazy!)BE CAREFUL! This is where your patience and temper will be tested! And here we met some interesting people!MOST OBNOXIOUS PEOPLE OF EGYPT:1.) The Horse Carriage Driver- He was hassling and scary. (Honestly! He look like a dirty old man!) We negotiated to ride with him and we thought he would take as along the boulevard, you know? For a little romantic spin with the horse. Well, we were wrong! He took us far away out of town to the bazaars! And he kept screaming that this bazaar, was the boulevard!Wow! What a far cry! Then he wanted instead of $6, $10! Well, mom just screamed at...

Taxi

by simon7975

This is how I got trapped. I booked a cab at Cairo main bus station to take me and my wife to Pyramids, Saqara and memphis as a day trip. We agreed on 100 egyptian pounds. We sat in the car and anther driver got into the driving seat. I politely asked him to leave and that I would go only with the first Cab driver. This driver was nice and he drove us to pyramids and there he took a detour and parked before a shop and a guy came shouting ' my friend' . They insisted on me visiting their shop and I got angry and ignored the other guy and told the cab driver to wait for me at the car park. The cab driver changed his version and said that he wants his money and that he wants to go back. I did not pay him but took my wife and went walking away from him. He kept on following us and I went to an ARMED Police man or army man. I told him what happened. The cab driver told him in Arabic...

Special price for You my friend

by vesna04

Wandering the streets is very difficult if there are any shops around. The sellers won’t let you pass by their shops without trying to drag you in. The tricks are various: they will ask you to help them write the advertising for their shop in your language, or the postcard for their friend who accidentally lives in the same country as you do…they may try to engage you in the chat of any kind just in order to get you into the shop....Once you are in there, you can find it very difficult to get out...the most ferquent sentence you will here is: Special price for you, my friend...

The Camel Ride

by vesna04

Allways negotiate the price before you get on the Camel. Don't give more than 10LE (usualy 1-2 LE will be enough) . One guy had to pay 25 euros in order to get off it. Camel ride is most expencive near the Pyramids.I dont like repiting the tips but I have to put this one on every of my Egypt pages

Money, money, money

by sukan

I have one negative experience from my Egypt (Cairo) visit. Watch out when someone offers you something even if he says that it is free of charge or that he doesn't want anything in return - he lies. We were stopped by a men who saw us looking into map and he offered us that he would take us to that place as he was going there, we said that we didn't want to, but he convinced us that he was a student and wanted to practice his English, ok.So he took us to that place and finally, when we were about to say goodbye, he was importunate and wanted some money for his guidence and wouldn't leave without it.Just pay attention to these free of charge services.
