The Horse Cart

by pangtidor

The horse cart can be seen in Cairo, nearby Nile River; Aswan, and mostly in Luxor. It could be a romantic chilly ride with your companion. It sets to be the ride for one couple and an extra passenger could sit next to the buggy man. Just be careful with the buggy man. The buggy man offered us 30LE, Egyptian Pounds for an hour ride and the deal was changed to 30 British Pounds at the end of the ride!! It was only 30 minutes ride instead of an hour from our first deal because he was trying to bring us shop at his uncles’ shops. Choose the good horse to ride on because there are many bad ones that forced to work by the owners. See my other warning and danger tip LIAR LIAR.

The camel ride

by pangtidor

Camel ride will be one of the unique transport options for you though it is not a pleasant ride. The height may be frightening you; the only solutions are relax and hold on tight to your front saddle. Just lean back whenever you get on and get off the camel. The camels are calm and cute ones so beating is unnecessary to keep them move. Just be careful with your camel man. They may change the deal after the ride and not even get you off from the camels if they dont get more tip from you. For those who just happened to be the first rider, it is a disaster. It is common at Giza plateau area. The average camel ride will cost you around 60-80LE for 30 minutes around Giza. See my other tip at warning and danger tips MONEY EXTORTION.

THE FELLUCA

by pangtidor

When you have more time in Egypt, try to ride on felluca, a traditional sailing boat. Some fellucas will offer the overnight trip or even few days trip. Just remember, no toilet or bathroom on the fellucas. It will be a small boat with the shed to protect you from the sunlight and rain, it will be moved by the sails and you will sleep on the deck. Nevertheless, it will be a wonderful trip without the annoying motor sound. Our felluca captain was the good one; he was the only one who did not ask us any tips. He even yelled at the kids who try to approach us for some hassle and begging. Yep, some kids with their tiny boat will approach your felluca and ask for some money in Aswan. I will build my felluca travelogues for more pictures of felluca. Check the website.

THE BUS

by pangtidor

The air conditioned bus for the long distance trip in Egypt is pretty good but may not be convenient for the ones with the longer legs. Ask for the front seats, number 1 to 4 for the pleasant journey. There will be baggage storage at the lower level and you have to get your baggage sticker claim from the driver. Keep your meal, water, snack, and valuable ones with you only. The seats number will be written in English, at the top of the window. YOUR BUS TICKETS WILL BE IN ARABIC LETTER AND NUMBERS ONLY. Ask help by telling your city destination or showing your bus tickets to the driver or other passengers if you travel alone. Most of the drivers can not speak English. He will give short announcement with the microphone for each stop or checking. PASSPORT PASSPORT for checking and RESTING or STRETCHING, usually 10-15 minutes stops. Keep your passport and tickets handy for each check; and...

THE TRAIN

by pangtidor

Get the sleeping train instead of the sitting train for your convenient on the longer trip if you are not able to get the flight to your destination. Though the seats are spacious for the air conditioned sitting train with the reclining chairs, the toilets are terrible. Don’t leave your bags unattended. See my other warning and danger tip, unattended bags. NO FREE MEALS AND DRINK ON THE TRAIN. A man with the tray will be walking all along the aisle and yelling coffee QAHWA or tea CHAY. You have to pay for everything and they may charge you more. Keep your tickets and passports handy because they may check it at the each stop. The seat numbers will be written in English too, at the top of the windows. There will be many numbers in your tickets written in English numbers, ask which one your seat number is, your train number, and your departure time. The passenger announcement will be in...

THE AIRPORT CODES

by pangtidor

Egypt has 8 international airports and 10 local airports. The Cairo international airport (CAI) will have many connecting flights to other international airports and EgyptAir has regular flights to their local airports. Hopefully these airport codes list will help you to book your flights. The Egypt international airports nearby the tourist sites are Aswan (ASW), Luxor (LXR), Hurgada (HRG), Sharm El Shaikh (SSH), and Alexandria (ALY). There is a local airport to the Abu Simbel Temple, with the code ABS.

Plenty of cabs around, but are privately owned many of them... very high pressure to try to get you to go into their cabs as a result. Cab drivers will drive slow and sort of follow you trying to pressure you to get into their cabs.

EAST DELTA BUS

by matt10gonzalez

It's not bad! Especially if you have the whole row for yourself! If Superjet is like riding business class (the first class bus is an exclusive 5 star tour bus), this is like riding...economy class! That's not so bad right? Note: Both buses are about the same prices, just different schedules (As of 2005)But what's great about this bus is that there's no more bus hostess (As of 2005) who forces you to buy their so-so snacks. Overall: It's pretty okay unless it breaks down! Like our bus was delayed for an hour!

It's big...it's fast...it's Super Jet!

by matt10gonzalez

It's big...it's fast...it's Super! It's Superjet! One of Egypt's most luxurious and comfortable buses! Ride this and you'll feel like you're flying business class with food and drinks served!JUST WARNING THOUGH:It's not free! That's right- you have to pay. AND...You have to learn to say NO. Not only once but many times! Because if they know you're a tourist, some (only) stewardess (Yup! The girls are more aggressive!) hassle you to buy the not so nice food and drinks! And it getsworst! They ripped you off too! Example: When you say coffee, make sure it's only coffee as they purposely give you a snack box and charge you $10! More than the fare! (Cairo-Alexandria) And believe me- because this happened to me and my family! MOM- "Next time, bring your own snacks!"

The Modern Day Camels of the Sinai- Taxis!

by matt10gonzalez

You should thank God you weren't born during Moses' time! Because during his time, you'll be forced to travel from Sharm to Israel on several long days in a torturous-butt killing butt of a camel and under the evil heat of the sun the whole time! Now in this times, you'll be too tempted to ride a taxi that will breeze you to Israel from Sharm in just 3 hours! Taxis are the best mode of transportation around the Sinai ONLY if: 1.) You're 5 or more. In our case, 5 BIG family members. (It'll just come out 1/2 more expensive than the bus) AND IF2.) You're travelling independently and your destination is either: a.) St. Catherine's Monastery- Because you can just leave anytime you want with the taxi- like if it gets to hot and you had enough of the monastery already. b.) Ras Mohammed- There's few buses that go here so a private car, hence, your own taxi is very convenient! c.) Taba and up to...
