Forbidden photos !

by WojtekD

Photography is extremely dangerous activity in Equatorial Guinea. Even if you will get a special permit to take photos from Ministry of Tourism (two photos and 17 000 CFA fee required) you are still in danger that the policeman or other agent will catch you on the street announcing that you took a picture of government institution (it is forbidden!!!).Take care and see more pictures from EG (only Polish comment - sorry!) on my www page:http://www.kontynenty.tpi.pl/Eqaf1pl.htm

Warning about transport and weather

by Ilya_Andriy

Crossing Equatorial Guinea will take you too much time altough is a small country. It is due to its unpaved roads that become extremely muddy with rain. There are only a couple of paved roads. And they are airports ones and the road that joins Obiang’s city with another one. Before taking a taxi ask the driver for prices and don’t pay NEVER in advance. You will avoid some misunderstoods with taxi drivers. They sometimes forget things.[Teodoro Obiang Nguema is Equatorial Guinea’s president (some people calls him dictator) since 1979]

General warning

In EG there aren’t risky zones to avoid if you are a tourist. Is a country safer than european ones. There are military control barriers in the roads with a little activity by day but a little harder by night. You have to be very careful about taking pictures with a camera. There are too much places in which you cannot do it, as the airports, harbours, official buildings and places where the police or the army is (that's why some of my pictures were taken from a car). In Bioko Island there are several touristic places in which you cannot go in without“permission” (usually, the only thing that you have to do for obtaining the “permissions” is paying) as Valle de Moka and Ureka. You must drink ONLY bottled water. Most famous is “Tangui”. And you have to take care of mosquitoes and to be vaccinated to tropical diseases.
