When you go to Tis Abay Falls, you will find many guides willing to help you as you go down the bus. Most are just local guys who want to earn some dollars. If you just wanna get there and be back you can bargain with them. Don't pay more than 20B, it's the normal fee.
But if you want "official guides", head to the Tickets Box office (at the end of the main road) and there you will see some guys with a green jacket that offer you their services for 30B (3 Usd). They are just a little bit more experienced than the other guys, but know a little about history and so and are good value.

When you take an arranged boattrip (its the only possibility to visit the moasteries) you have been ripped at Zegni island. You have to pay for two "guides" several persons etc.
Totally it will cost you more than 25 dollar! Its better to visit the island with a large ( more than 4) group. You are stronger then against all the touts and pseudo touts
Unique Suggestions: Visit the island with morew than 4 persons
Fun Alternatives: Dont visit Zegni. there are many interesting islands
