ANY BAR OR RESTAURANT: HAVE A GIN!

by DAO

If you like Gin, you will love Ethiopia! Not only do people make it at home, they also serve large quantities for literally pennies a drink. A gin & tonic is usually served with a fresh slice of lime or lemon. I went out one night with friends and was getting them for about US 10 cents each! Drink up!If you need more - you can by huge bottles in any large market. 3 of the photos are from a wholesaler in Harar who gave me a large free sample (Last Photo) !

ZERO: Night Life is NIL in this town

by Bashir2005

There are bars and discos on this town, I went out with some UN employees one night and experience was great. Despite the friendly ladies in the bars and discos all over the city, I am sure there were about 3 when I was there in March 05. I found very uncofortable when I saw cats, dogs and hyenas passing by without the people's concern for their safety. I remeber saying "Look, look that's bigger than a dog or fox !!!" My friends (UN employees posted here) said, it's normal to walk at night with Hynas next to you. Well I leave you to think about this. For me, I don't like Hynas (Full stop). I think Hyena is the ungliest mamal on planet earth. No dress code required.

Cannot remember, but on the main street: Disco in Dessie, anyone?

by Saagar

Dessie is a student town and a main intersection for travels and transport between Djibouti, Tigray and Addis Abeba. It is a very lively town with several hotels (catering to business and local and regional travellers). There are a some dancing bars with good Ethiopian music, that does it for great dancing, and many young people are out for fun and a beer rather late at night. Dessie has also some good breakfast and lunch restaurants. For those who wake up in time to catch truckers' restaurants' theyr're offering very cheap deals and tasty breakfasts beyond the injera staples. Traveller's nice;that means no tie, but not your stained traveller's khakis either.

Local Traditional Erotic Dance: Don't join this nightlife...;)

by Roardo

This girl attends a traditional erotic dance in the Omo region of the Hammer people. Nightlife on it's best, but also it's worst. The liberated sex life is one of the main reasons that HIV is spreading rapidly in the area..

Addis Abeba is probably the only place that has some good places to go out to:1.PEAKOK -have a drink in your car-2.Sheraton Hotel...for those who want to see the contrast of total luxury with the rest of the city (and country).

by hprior

Addis Abbaba: Oh I hope this place is still there. I don't know the address but the name is the Peacock Bar. It is a drive-in bar. Yup, you drive up to the bar, blink your lights and a waiter in a white coat comes out and takes your order. Then he brings out a tray for your window with your drinks on it. It's a hoot. The drinks were good too.Must be in a car! No code, except wear clothes!
