Plane, bus, 4WD.

by sachara

Ethiopia is a huge country. So the quickest way to go around is to fly with Ethiopian Airlines. There are domestic flights from Addis Abeba to 20 other towns, like Bahir Dar, Gonder, Aksum, Lalibela, Arba Minch and Jinka. It's fast and cheap. For travelling by road there are buses between all major towns. To reach smaller towns and villages, you can use minibuses, 4 WDs or pickup trucks. In Addis Abeba you can also arrange several tours. Doing the historical route to the north by minibus will take two weeks. Going south to visit the villages and tribes in the Lower Omo Valley and the lakes in the Rift Valley by 4WD will take also about two weeks.

There are different ways of visiting Ethiopia. As a Tour Operating company, We have been to other part of Africa and we can definitely testify surface tour of Ethiopia is quite safe. it is also another way of exploring the countries cultural asset and meeting the people there.

Flight Nairobi-Addis

by Saagar

When you take the plane between Addis and Nairobi the flight path takes you straight along the Rift Valley. With a view from a window seat you can see all the volcanoes dotting the hills and mountains west of and in the Rift Valley itself.Bring a map to orientate.Interestingly, most of the volcanoes cannot easily be seen or visited from the Rift Valley itself.

SLOW.............VERY SLOOOOOOOOOW

by w8andzee

To get around Ethiopia, you'll end up on a bus soner but rather later. They will take you practically everywhere but the're dead slow and brake doen every now and then. Still it's a great way to have a chat with locals from all over and to see the fantastic and ever changing landscape, that is if you can keep the curtain off the windows...If your time is short and you want to see a lot, take the plane on some parts of the Historical Route since the roads are worst up nort. In the south, all the way down to Kenya the roads are OK.

Hacia Harar: Tren de Addis...

by maribelm

Ethiopian airlines, Egyptian air, Lufthansa, and Alitalia fly to Addis Ababa from the UK. We flew with Ethiopian airlines, a recommendable service. There are internal flights going to major centers such as Bahar Dar, Lalibela and Axum (except in times of war with Eritrea). Going Long Distances By road: I would seriously avoid the buses as we saw one teatering on the edge of a cliff, and another on its side. You can go by tour like we did, or hire a 4 wheel drive and guide which you can get for around $100US a day. Getting Around Addis Ababa: You can hire a taxi for about $2US an hour. We were lucky, with a taxi driver who can speak good english. We hired him for 3 days.

The hot and dry months are April and May.-------------------Best way to travel with a group of 4 poeple is hire a 4wheel drive and see the south-Some flights can be included for faster service and gain time. Addis-Bahir Dar-Gondar(by Bus or Car)-till Harrar(flight)-till Addis(flight).-----------------Athiopians Airlines are from the best african airlines!!

Transportation is a special...

by Chacco

Transportation is a special and different thing. Going by PLANE is very easy, the planes always were in time - more exactly, than I found it in other parts of the world. Ethiopian Airlines don't have too much computers, but they work very efficiently. Buying the ticket via internet in Europe was about 10% cheaper than to buy the ticket in Addis. My BUS tour was special: effucion of blood on my knees, but the atmosphere on my 17 hours trip from Addis to Bahar Dar was very funny. We laughed a lot and I got many friends.

by inuit

The best way to get to Adis Ababa is with Ethiopian Air Lines. They fly from major cities in Europe like Rome, Amsterdam or London. U can also try with Lufthansa. We will use Toyota Lancruisers, 4-5 pax in each vehicle + local driver.
