Popular General Tips | Other General Tips Tips | All Tips (4) Between the campsite and the village we walked several times along the main road, leading from Turmi to Konso and the tarred roads from there.
The mainroad looked more as a local scenic track. Avoiding midday, it was always a nice to walk with here with nice views at the surrounding landscape with hazy mountains at the background.
Vehicles on this road were an exception. So we met only other people, also walking. The local Hamer people always greeted us friendly. Leave a Comment

When we arrived in the village Turmi, it looked like a dusty roadcrossing with wide unpaved roads and a large square of red sand. We saw only a few buildings along those main roads.
Our campsite was about 500-1000 M outisde the village, along the mainroad heading east in the direction of Konso. It was not only dusty, but also extremily hot, so first we visited the roofed open air Tourist Restaurant for a cool drink, before we continued to the Evangadi Campsite.
During our stay in Turmi of about 3-4 days we walked a few times to the village and find out there were some more roads. Most of the time these unpaved roads between the compounds were empty. But at monday, the local marketday, we saw a lot of people, walking in one direction. By following them we found the market. A lot of small kids liked to join us, holding hands. Leave a Comment

When we walked along the road, we met a lot of the friendly local people greeting us. Mostly they stopped to try to talk with us, as far we could speak some words in their language or they knew some english. Otherwise we used our hands trying to express, what we meant.
At monday, the local marketday, there were a lot more people en route, most women. So we met just in front of the campsite these two Hamer women with their authentic leather clothing, jewellary and hairstyle on their way to the market. They went there to sell a chicken, necklaces and other stuff. Leave a Comment

On our way from the campsite to the village of Turmi we had to cross a wadi or dry riverbed. There were always a lot of goats strolling around together with their herdsboys.
The wadi was not far from the campsite, so it was also a nice place to walk in the late afternoon. In the dry season it is hardly to imagine in this dry area, that there can be also a lot of water in the wadi during the rainy season. Leave a Comment
