 | Port-Gentil Restaurants | Tips 1 - 5 of 5 | | Popular Restaurants | Miscellaneous Restaurants Tips | All Tips (5) The Copacabaña mostly occupies a breeze way between two houses down a bumpy side street somewhere in Port Gentil. The kitchen seems to be in one house, while the bar and additional seating are in the second... Not much for decor as one should expect from any local dining experience in West Africa, but the food is fresh and well prepared in the local style.
Grilled gambas with pili-pili sauce, washed down with a "vino collapso", which is a wine for lying down and avoiding altogether. The gambas here were the largest prawns I had ever seen, much less eaten... The Copa prepared them to perfection, paying close attention not to over grill them, thus drying them out. And the pili-pili sauce was just right too, not so hot as to overpower the taste of the gambas... Very modern setting on the inside. The paint is earthy and new. The waitresses are prompt and the kitchen is excellent.
Le tournedos with a red wine! Theme: FrenchPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Downtown just across the parking lot from the Score department store. |
This is the priciest and the best food in Port Gentil. Definitely a good spot for couples to go to for a special occasion. I love the scenery in this little restaurant. It is a pirates theme. The walls have ship stuff on them like a net with shells and things for decoration. There is a Captain's Wheel and many piratey things I don't know the names of. On the walls are also sailing maps for all of the old Pirate runs in the Mediterranean, the Aegean, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Arabian, and the Red Sea. The service is prompt and courteous. The kitchen is excellent for everything I have ever eaten there: Barracuda, Capitaine, Rouge, Carp, Bass, shrimp, and beef.
The Barracuda (le becune) Theme: SeafoodPrice: US$41 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: most expensiveDirections: This one is tougher to find. It is north on the Newport Road. It is East of Airport Road. It is a dirt road to get to it. Definitely easiest if you take a taxi for the first time :) |
The ambience is very nice with the waves splashing twenty feet away and the ocean as scenery. The food is in the mid-range of restaurant quality found in Port Gentil. The pricing is also mid-range. The service is good, the waitresses are friendly, and I like eating on the open air patio. The kitchen is timely and usually dependable for a good tasting meal.
I love the "brochette poulet" with a Castel or a Djino. Theme: AfricanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Located on the wharf west of the Marina and east of the Supergros grocery store. |
This is a beach pub which serves brochettes to the brave. The Castel is cold and the best price in the Industrial side of town. You can have a table in the sand with the ocean twenty feet away or you can sit under the roof.
I have never eaten here, only drank the beer! However, I am told by many who do that the brochettes are quite good! Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Right on the wharf just east of the Mayor's house after SOBRAGA brewing and the pavement switches to the red earth. Mami Wata is on the south side of the road and has people there EVERY night :) |
