We had asked the driver to take us to the beach of Winneba, and he took us to some run-down "resort" from where it would have been difficult to find a return taxi. Eventually though, the message got through and we were taken to the open market area, where the fishing village congregates. The market and fishing village at Winneba was a very pleasant place to engage in a crowd of curious children and adults, normally busy with their occupation. The command of English is surprisingly good, in spite of fact that few tourist stop by. We didn't see any other tourists at the time of our visit at least. The beach is broad and a great place to launch the fishing boats that must contend with international fishing fleets just off the Gold Coast. These vessels were colorfully painted and maintained. When the boats arrive loaded with fish, I understand that bargaining for fresh fish is easy. Also, I believe that bargaining for a ride to sea on the fishing boat would also be adventure that's possible.

We enjoyed appraising the facilities with the director who depends upon revenue from the central government. We looked in on classes and also met many students. At the time of our visit the soccer team was out of town though. The grounds of the campus are naturally green from the tropical climate of the area, but maintenance is a constant problem. For those interested in visiting, e-mail me and I'll introduce you to the director.
