    Giddipass Bar & Restaurant: Giddipass

    Giddipass from its rooftop

Giddipass Bar & Restaurant is also named Crest Restaurant and it is located in the heart of town. To enter the bar, you should enter the little square behind the building, by entering the little road right from the Crest Restaurant. There you will easily find the stairs to the terrace on the first floor where the bar is.

The terrace of Giddipass is a nice place to sit, because you will always catch a soft breeze, and if you climb another stairs to the rooftop of the building you'll have one of the best views of Tamale you can possibly get.

The food at Giddipass is told to be very nice (Chinese and Ghanaian cuisine), but I haven't tried it (yet). The atmosphere though it brilliant, with nice music, good beers and other drinks and a great mixture of foreigners and locals visiting the place.

    Sparkles Restaurant: Sparkles

    Having a STAR-beer at Sparkles

Sparkles Restaurant is the favourite hang-out of a lot of volunteers working in Tamale, mostly Dutchmen, Belgians and Germans. It is situated in the building of the National Cultural Centre, and borders the "Police Park" football-field, next to the Police Headquarters.

You can have good dinners at Sparkles, but the place is much more popular during lunchtime. Nice things to try are the Tuna Club Sandwich, the Cabbage Salad and the Spanish Omelet: all nice varieties in the world of Fufu, TZ and Banku.

You can sit both inside and outside, but since the temperature is the same, it's nice to catch a breeze outside on the terrace. The friendly personnel at Sparkles (Rashida and Musa) will probably remember your name after seeing you only once, and will warmly welcome you everytime you come back.

STC Station Canteen: STC Station Canteen

    STC Canteen

In the little canteen at the terrain of the STC Station in Tamale, you can get very good, and very cheap Ghanaian meals. From fufu and banku to more well-known dishes like jollof or plain rice. The environment is not very inspiring and rather noisy, and the service is not suburb either, but the food is very good in both quality and quantity, and it will never cost you more then $ 2,50 for a meal.

Favorite Dish: I had a Jollof-Rice with chicken and really enjoyed it!

    Relax Lodge Restaurant: Relax Lodge

    by Pieter11 Written Oct 18, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Relax Lodge mainly is a luxurious place to sleep, compared to the average level in Tamale at least. But it's also a very nice place to eat if you don't stay there. The Relax Lodge it situated about 1,5 kilometres east from the centre of town, following Dagomba Road. From there you can follow the clearly visible signs at the roadside.

The menu is full of Chinese, Indian and European dishes like Pasta, Pizza and French Fries, but you can also get Ghanaian dishes here. It is not cheap to eat here compared to other places in Tamale, but still I had a great meal here with Fish Soup and a Large Seafood Pizza and two drinks for only $ 13,-. The food just is very good value!

    Titi's Inn: Titi's Inn

Having a big dinner at Titi's Inn

Titi's Inn is a very new restaurant in Tamale, and is unique in town. The owner is a Lebanese (he named the place after his daughter) and he wanted to promote the Lebanese cuisine in Ghana. The result is a great menu with shawarma, khebab and falafel, some typically Middle Eastern dishes. A very nice way to try something different for once.

Also unique: the place is as far as I know the only place in Tamale when you can find cappuccino and espresso, and where you can get delicious fruit juices for a reasonable price.

Besides eating and drinking you can also play a game of ping-pong and pool here.

Favorite Dish: My favourite dish is the shawarma sandwich. The meat is perfectly spiced and juicy! Favourite drink is the juice cocktail, with orange juice, banana juice, mango juice, and melon juice all mixed up...

Mum's Cool Spot: Very cool indeed

by grets Written Feb 7, 2007

At lunchtimes, we used to stop at a bar/café/restaurant where they had adequate facilities. We were unable to find somewhere like that in Tamale, but Noah managed to arrange for us to use the toilets in the Technical College across the road from the restaurant. I don’t know whether the restaurant didn’t actually have toilets, or whether Noah didn’t think they were of an ‘acceptable’ standard.

The restaurant was nice and cool as they name suggests, with a wall surrounding a shaded courtyard. We were a little perturbed to see broken glass atop the wall, not sure whether it was to keep undesirable elements out or non-paying patrons in!

Favorite Dish: We didn’t actually eat at Mum’s Cool Spot, as we had our won cook and food with us, but we did enjoy a drink from their well-stocked bar.
