A lot of goods are cheaper or better in Lome than in Accra: alcohol for instance.
You find more in supermarkets in Lome, so I often go to Lome for shopping.
Unfortunately, I should pay taxes on what I bring. I already pay too much taxes to police, customs, etc, so I ask a local guy to carry my bags with my food and bottles. As a local Ewe, they don't control what he is carrying. On the other side, I take my bag and give him money. He is making his day and his very happy.
I don't have to discuss with customs officers and I am also very happy.

Driving from Accra to the Togo border takes you through the countryside in Ghana with scattered settlement. The rural parts outside Aflao have small shops and shoppingstalls along the road.

As busy as a border town can be in Africa, Aflao is living around the clock since the border is also open 24/7. It makes a big town with Lome, just separated by the officla border for the non Ewe...
Aflao is a town on Ghana's eastern border to Togo, and is populated by people from the Anlo and Ewe tribe. The border area of the town is a markedplace for people trading goods between Ghana and Togo....
