The end is nigh
We saw this sign on a wall in a restaurant in Kumasi. I sincerely hope it isn’t a reflection of the standard and quality of their food. I think somehow the quote must have lost something in the translation……?

Water is readily available in bottles of every size as well s in these sealed plastic bags. They are a much cheaper and environmentally friendly way of purchasing water – however, be aware that there are some street sellers who will offer you water in unsealed bags. Avoid. The water bags are also available in many of the stores, bars and restaurants, as well as from the street sellers who will bring them to your car. Even bought off the street, the bags are usually kept cool through insulation and it’s a great way of cooling down on a long hot road trip by placing a cold water bag or two on your lap.

Just like any bustling city, Accra has its pickpockets. They're quick and light-fingered, so they'll get to ANY exposed pocket, bag or backpack. Sometimes, the pickpockets watch their "victims" for a couple of blocks and then swoop in. Io avoid being robbed, don't carry money or valuables in your back pockets of your clothes or the outside pockets of your bags. Use a pocket that's close to your body (e.g a breast pocket) where you'd feel intrusive fingers. Keep your bag close to your body with the closures turned inward.
There was a woman with whom I spoke during my stay in Ghana who literally told me through a translator that I did not face any problems in life. Of course, I immediately explain to her the situation of my drug addict father, abusive step-father and inability to afford an education, and she retracted her comment, of course. After some conversation, I pointed out how Ghanaians appear to be much more youthful and vibrant than Americans, and she was shocked. She mentioned how American movies make Americans look as if they're young, beautiful and problem free. I then realized the problem. There's a world-wide-fairy tale about America. My opinion is that no area of the world, regardless of the situation, can avoid problems. In fact, Americans seem to be some of the most problem-ridden people that I have interacted with. Of course, the majority of problems that Americans are faced with seem to...
There is an aspect of the Ghanaians' attitude towards Westerners that can be a little bit frustrating sometimes, and it can even make one's visit uncomfortable, that is if one allows it. As a Westerner, and a white one, I was forced to become accustomed to the assumption by all Ghanaians that I'm wealthy. Of course, I attempted to explain the truth, as I saw it, to anyone who was willing to listen. The truth, as I see it, is that I am wealthy when compared to most Ghanaians, but there are certan circumstances that I feel are very important to make known. First and foremost, the cost of many things is far more expensive in the U.S. when compared to the price of something identical in Ghana. For example, one can purchase three years rent of an apartment for approximately $400 in Ghana, but that will not even buy a person one month of the rent of an apartment in the U.S. The same goes for...

well this a moment in the time of ghanas span were the inhabitants wont be seeing much of electricity, the only hydro electric dam we have is short of water so to keep it running theres lots of load sheding all over,at least once every 3 to 4 days be assurred of 12 hours of darkness thank goodness if its day,its gets worst at nightfall...........50 years of independence what our first president left us hasnt been improved upon sometimes i wonder a people that we are.
I'm a 20 year old female, and found Ghana to be completely safe-- moreso than developed countries. People here are very hospitable and are always willing to help you out if you're lost. I found I enjoyed traveling alone much more than with a companion. The only warning is that, lately, it seems that Kumasi has seen what they call "armed robbers"-- purportedly Nigerians who go and rob rich people while wielding guns. As far as I know though, they've never robbed a foreigner.
yep africa has massive population, and massive urban drift like anywhere else in the world, pickpockets and thiefs have noticed this and abdopted the life as an inhabitat, any time you find your self in a place with more than one or two people beware, the smaller the space between you and other pedestrians, you better be alert, pickpockets will steal everything youve got from cellular phones to the last mint youve got in your pocket........be extracareful when you taking trotro(see transportation tip as to what trotro is) ,join a queue or in one at a lorrystation or road side, and when you walking in market areas.
yep if you dont love taking the cab in the city, your legs will probably hurt this a normal scenery during dusk or evenings when people troop the streets and lorry stations from work, schools and other places of interest, there are long queues every where from road sides to lorry stations, the best redemption is to chatter a cab
when you dwell in the city its better 2 be at least 2 hours ahead of time,to which ever place you of to,this mostly applies to mornings especially mondays, traffic becomes hectic,,most of the road arent wide enough ,here is the case new and old cars keep coming all the time, the result it pretty obvious choked roads.
