Bounded on the South by the Atlantic Ocean and on the West by La Cote d"ivoire, the East by Togo and the North by Burkina Faso. Ghana is a tropical country. The South Western part is located within the warm wet forest zone similar to the Amazon. Accra, the capital, is located in the dry equatorial cones. Kumasi is in the wet savanna. It lies between 4? and 11 ? North at the equator and has a coastline of 540 km.Northern Ghana has a range season from about April to October. The rest,of the year is hot and dry, with temperatures up to about 38?C. In Southern Ghana the rains last from April to June and again from September to October. Generally temperatures are between 21 - 31?C. The rains are usually restricted to specific times each day during the rainy season; they are not continuous throughout the day.

Modern private and public hospitals and clinics are available in all cities and big towns. Tourist should contact travelers" medical insurance companies to cover any medical contingencies while away from their home countries.

by pflame

The most widely accepted credit cards are American Express, Dinners, and Visa. Your car may be used for payment at nearly all airlines, leading hotels and major supermarkets. Using your credit card in Ghana can be risky though. There have been numerous instances of credit card fraud in Ghana. A credit card number can be recorded and sold, even at the best facilities.

ElectricityIf you are bringing along any electrical appliances, they should operate on or be adaptable to 220 volts. Electric outlets in Ghana accept either 3pronged, or sometimes 2-pronged. British or Continental European type plus or converters.

travelling at night

by Whoopi

Lately, it has become more dangerous to travel at night. If you take trotro from one big city to another, try not to travel long after dark. Some roads are very far from people and sometimes you have to drive trough the mountains. There are gangs who rob and sometimes kill when they attack public transportation at night, so take care...Within the towns and cities there are no problems...

Forests are disappearing

by Wafro

Timber once was a number one export product of Ghana. Now that many forests have been cleared, the export of tropical hardwood has declined. But you can still see the trucks loaded with big logs driving around the southern part of the country.

Bush meat

by Wafro

Bush meat, you can find it everywhere. At local markets, in chop bars and along the road.Use your brains and don’t buy it if it’s possible, otherwise you support the killing of wild animals.Sometimes it’s easier to find animals along the road, than in the wild.-Monkeys-Snake-Grascutter-Antelope-….

Addresses Wanted!

by VJSmith

It seems many Ghanians, especially children, will do anything to get a hold of your address book. One of my students climbed over our balcony and stole postcards addressed to my friend Henry´s friends in the UK. A few weeks later the friends emailed wondering who was Jonathan, and why was he asking for money and toys??
