The hotel: Seafood is good in Africa

The restaurant at the hotel is not in any great decor or anything but it they took good care of us and were realy nice to us. The food was good, I only ate things that are considered "safe" no dairy, and no chicken no fruits that you can´t peel. But what they had in the seafodd pasta was realy nice. There were alot of things that were good. I have a sensitve stomach since I got salmonella in Jeddah so I can´t eat many things but the people with me ate almost everything and said it was good stuff. This was the hotel restaurant. In Conakry I would never go to town and eat....I just wouldn´t trust it!

Favorite Dish: Seafood pasta!! My fave!!

Le Cedre: Good food at a good price

As I have said in other reviews, the restaurants here all pretty much serve the same thing, but the chicken brochettes here are great. Start off with a bit of hummus with oil, tomato and onion, then compliment it with a beer or wine, and you have a culinary delight that will last till the food gets there!

Favorite Dish: Hummus, chicken brochettes and some good company! Very good atmosphere, with good music and people all mind their own business... a rariety for Guinea!!!

On the water

I have passed by this place once before, and always thought it was just a hotel, but their food was not bad. You need to remember one thing about Guinean-expat restaurants... they all serve pretty much the same thing... BROCHETTES!!! So, it is really just a matter of what else they have that makes it a good or bad experience!

Only problem with this place is that it is difficult to get to. Even with a car! The road is very bad and it is not the place to go if you do not have transportation!

Favorite Dish: The fish brochettes were good with rice and vegetables, but what freaked me out was they put SWISS cheese on their pizza... Imagine that... SWISS cheese!!!

Casa Bella!: The Mexican rocks!!!

Casa Bella

This is a great restaurant in Conakry! Not the most expensive, but one of them! I personally think that sometimes it is worth splurging and getting some "comfort food!" This place has many different types of foods. From Lebanese, Pizza and Mexican. The atmosphere, as you can see, is very nicely decorated and spacious! They also have an outside balcony for dining as well, but with the heat... NO THANKS! Most people don't show up here until after 8pm most nights. There are a wide variety of family that do come here to eat and have their kids swim in the pool while they eat with friends.

Favorite Dish: I have to say that between the mixed brochettes and the quesadillas are the best! I heard a horror story about ordering a ham pizza there, so you are warned!

Damier: Wide variety of sweets

This place has a very wide variey of sweets! They have everything from cakes to little tarts.

They have also started doing premade food to take home like hamburgers and pot pies.

On Sunday mornings, they have a small buffet to enjoy. I have never eaten it, but looks ok. I have also seen that they do lunch and dinner menu as well, but there are too many other places to go besides there.

There are two sections to eat in... the one upstairs, which is a little more private and then downstairs around the hustle and bustle of the people coming in just to grab things and go. Downstairs can get noisy, but has a tv and you can people-watch.. which can be interesting!

La Gondole: Ice Cream... Nuff said!

I don't really care much for the food. Kind of Fast food style here with chwarma and burgers, but you go there for the Ice Cream!!!

It is a little expensive for a big banana split or mango parfait. About 20,000 GNF or about $5 USD, but worth it!!!

Favorite Dish: Only drawback is that it is usually very smokey inside.

San Remo: Gotta have Pizza!!!

Ok, so you are missing a little comfort food? Well then head down to San Remo's. It is run by a french couple, and have been there for years.

They have different styles of pizza that come out on a wood slab right from the oven!!! The lasagna is also something to try.

You can either sit inside or they have a little terrace where you may sit under the "hut" style area!

Oh, yeah, if you are in the mood for a little ice cream, check out the other area that I have listed, but here is out of the box.

The prices have gone up lately with the fluctuation of the dollar, but without wine or beer, you can still get the meal for a decent price!

Favorite Dish: Gotta have the LARRY here. Has everything on it I like and comes out well done and ready to eat!

THE BOYS

A little place with good music just loud enough that you can have a conversation without screaming. You walk in through the "car wash" blades and step into a very nice open area that has little "hut" type sitting areas and open areas. They keep the candles at tables for when the power goes out... which is often!
All in all, the place is great little get away that you can sit and enjoy a drink and converse while waiting for the food to arrive.

Favorite Dish: I absolutely love the Achecke there! It is a type of rice dish with onions, tomatoes and chicken. Very tender and with a LITTLE local pepper... NICE!
