Favorite thing: Follow the main road through the country from the capital, Conacry, to the south, go east and north till you return to Conacry, If you go by car, it is possible to make the trip in 2-3 days, but to enjoy it yoy should spend anything from 2 weeks and up to as much as you can afford.Make sure you came in contact with the local people.
Fondest memory: Sitting in a family, sharing their talks, meals and friendship

Favorite thing: In general, Conakry is a nice place to travel for work or business.
Otherwise I find it a bit restricting, in terms of leisure activities and so forth. What surprised me is that Conakry has the potential for a good shopping experience at very cheap prices. In the darkest corners and most dilapidated buildings you may find a french styled shop selling good quality leather handbags, and shoes. The market is good, but it is also the place I would be wary of, especially if you go shopping alone. Not recommended at all, especially if you are a tourist with money.
Sure, there are some tolerable places to hang out. Most places also close early. However, there are several good restaurants, Chinese, Vietnamese etc, and quality of food is good and service great.
Hotels, the Novotel is still (according to me) the better hotel, both in terms of friendliness and security. Recently I was in Conakry and found the Riviera Hotel a little "stiff". All nice clean and neat, but service was slow with a very big expectation from the staff for big tips. What I found uncomfortable was that the Riviera was more open, and with regard to security, not a good option.
One tip, DO NOT EAT AT THE HOTELS. IT SPELLS SUICIDE. Rather, buy what you need to buy at supermarkets for a fraction of the price or rather go to a restuarant. the Novotel simply inflates its prices for meals, and the price of alcohol is just as bad.
Fondest memory: Fondest memory of Guinea, hard to say,
I usually come back sick after every time I have been there, so anti malaria precautions are necessary.
