If you are into Surfing ( waveriding Windsurfing kiteboarding bodyboarding.. ) ilha do sal is your place to go.. but be careful, if you go there in winter ( november, december january february.. ) this is a high wind area.. surfing for cracks only.. ( if you can call yourself a professinal surfer, it might be your turn now.. ) .. but for all the others it is really dangerous then.

wanna watch the locals and world best surfers ? go to ponta preta , near santa maria, there you can find the best waves of the world .. but it is really dangerous there for beginners/unexperienced surfers.. the waves are huge, there are reefs and different flows.. the wind is also offshore most of the time .. so be really careful..otherwise you will get lost out there in the sea, and you will find yourself travelling to senegal or brasil..

during the summer months also beginners and less experienced surfers have perfect conditions.

diving / snorkeling is also wonderful there ( thats what people say.. ) but as I´m not so much into diving, that is all what I can tell you..

Equipment: on ilha do sal and also on ilha do boavista you can rent all kind of equipment for surfing and also diving..
go to the local surf shop and ask for help ( I think it is called ponta preta power.. ) or find Jérôme somewhere in santa maria, he also organises you private accomodation and drives you to the best pointbreak waves all around the island.
