Hitching...
  • Tip Rating:
  • not that you'll run into too many other westerners in Guinea-Bissau. But if you do, it's pretty easy to hitch a ride with them...and probably the only mode of reliable (read safe) transport. This is Frank. I met him while he was waiting 2 weeks for a ferry to cross one of the rivers in Guinea-Bissau. Eventually he gave up and returned to Senegal and I got a ride back to the Casamance with him.

ENGLISH - For those who are...
  • Tip Rating:
  • ENGLISH - For those who are not familiar to these countries: taxis are supposed to be shared with other people who goes to the same direction than you (this is so in a lot of other countries, of course). If you do not want so, you must negotiate a special (higher) price. Warning: roads are not as well maintained as it looks like on this picture.

    Local Transport in Bissau
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is about as organized as public transport gets in Bissau..a.t least when i was there right after the civil war. there were still rebuilding everything so things were in a state of chaos.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The best way to get around Bijagos Archipelago is to rent a boat. You can fish at the same time that you're contemplating the beautiful virgin islands.
