One of the main reasons for visiting Aberdare National Park, is of course the chance to see wild animals.
This is a picture of a herd of buffalo which we saw at Treetops, coming to the waterhole to drink.

In the grounds of Outspan Hotel, is a mock-up of a Kikuyu village for tourists. Although it is a little tousisty, it is actually very well done, and quite interesting.
The building on the left would be where the husband sleeps, the one on the right is for the wife, goats and childern!

For a small charge you could have your fortune told by the witch doctor. He spoke no English, so a guide would come along and translate. I was told that I was going to have a long life, slightly troubled at times, but I would get what I wanted in the end.

I was totally captivated by the beautifully blue-flowering Jacaranda trees. This was the first time I had seen anything like it, and I loved the way the fallen petals colourd the entire ground blue. Standing under the tree in the slight breeze was like standing in a blue snow fall. Magical!

TEMBO (Swahili for elephant)
The African elephant is the world's largest land creature. A male weighs up to 6 tonnes and can be 4 m tall.
The herd exists of females with young. Males live alone and come only to the herd during mating season.

If you are in Aberdare National Park, a visit to Treetops Hotel is a MUST. It really is quite a special experience, and one that you should not miss.

A group dancers put on a very colourful and interesting display for us, dressed in traditional outfits. The bobombo drums echoeing all around the mock-up Kikuyu village.

The gardens are also home to a few peacocks. If you are really lucky they will display their feathers for you - such a spectacular bird!
