You must go on a safari and sample the local delicacy, such as Hippo, Zebra and Giraffe (all quite legal in the right restaurants) My favourite was Giraffe
Safari is amazing, we only did a couple of days, which was enough, the sites are amazing, can't describe it - just do it!!!

    Tzavo national park

We took a day trip safari to Tzabo. We planned to go first to Tzabo east and at the afternoon pass over to Tzabo west. If you plan to do so or just to go to the eastern part of the park it is a good idea to get a pass from the park office at Mombasa a day earlier. This way you can enter at Buchuma gate and save the trip to the park office at Voi. This way you can enter real erly in the morning. Extra safari time is precious (see safari tips)!

You shod plan a safari trip so that you start driving real early in the morning (around sunrise). This way you can see all the herds coming to the pons for a morning drink. Noontime is to hot for just everyone so it's a good idea to checkout the pool in the next loge and go out again in the afternoon.

If you go to Tzabo west go in from Tzabo gate at around 15:00 and head to Nagulia rino farm. The farm is open only from 16:00 to 18:00 !!! You might not catch any rinos but there are many other animals to see there. We saw a lot of elephants, a giraffe and a cheetah.

Going to a zoo in Kenya ??? Yes! This is a grate experience for both grownups and kids! This place was a mining place and was turned back to a wild forest using a lot of environmental care. Fish to eat the mosquito eggs and Iguanas to get rid of snakes and the guide will tell you lots moreā€¦

    Besides the beautiful beaches,...

Besides the beautiful beaches, Mombasa has a few places which are an absolute must. The Ngomongo village shows all the cultural backgrounds of the various tribes of Kenya.
The Mamba village is a crocodile place to go around during the day and one side of it gets lively at night with the disco. A mini nature walk through the Nature Trail is great for kids. It has a few animals like hippos and girrafes etc.
A day out on the Chale Island is also a great experience. The walk throught the forest and the boat ride through the Mangroves was some experience.
There are a few Night spots but PIRATES Beach Bar and Restuarant is 'THE PLACE' to be in specially on Fridays and Saturdays. Go for a Light and Shadows show to the Fort Jesus every Thursday for an English version. They also have it in German but sorry I am not aware of the day of the week!!
If you are living on the South coast, Forty Theives is the Night Spot to be in.
You can also go on a 2 day Safari from Mombasa to Tsavo and on a day Safari to Mwaluganjo Elephants Park in Kwale.
Birdwatchers can feast their eyes on a variety of birds in the Bird Sanctuary on the south coast.

We had a couple of days here at the end of a safari, and just chilled out on the beach for the duration. A very nice sandy beach with umbrellas and sun beds, albeit a little small.

  • Fort Jesus

by fizzb Updated Feb 2, 2003

Fort Jesus is a very old fortification, standing above the town. It has a very interesting history, being nearly 400 years old. It also provides an excellent vantage point over the city.
