    As you go back to the ticket office for the Gedi site you can also make a quick detour to the Kipepeo Butterfly Farm. The farm is nothing to get wildly excited about, but still gives an interesting insight into the wildlife of the Arabuko-Sokoke forest. It is run as part of a conservation project that tries to provide the local people with an environmentally sustainable way of earning an income from the forest, which previously was mainly seen as a source for timber and firewood. Now people are encouraged to breed butterflies and to keep bees. If you have time you can watch a video about the various conservation initiatives in the forest. Honey from Arabuko-Sokoke is also available at Kipepeo.

    The best time to visit the butterfly farm is in the morning when the pupae are hatching, and during the rainy season when most butterfly species are around.
