Matatus(mini-bus) are the most popular form of public transport in Kenya. These are white vans with painted yellow strip across hte sides. They operate on set routes, and collect as many passengers as possible from the outset and along the way. Passengers board and alight whenever and wherever they choose.
Matatus are cheap and widely available on almost any route in Kenya. It may cost about 100ksh for a 1hr ride. But the popularity and low pricing leads to matatus often packed literally to bursting point, with even passengers riding on the outside of the vehicle.
Matatus usually try to cover as much ground as possible, so be careful as they usually drive at high speeds.
