Thompsons Gazelle

by Tallchick80

The thompsons gazelle were among my favorite animals. Mostly viewed as the prey for cheetahs and lions, these little guys were very fun to watch and beautiful. They would group together in large harems (only one large male buck for up to 50 females) and they would bounce around and jump. They were always playing and I enjoyed them.

Monkeys

by Tallchick80

I absolutely love monkeys, and in Kenya, they were everywhere! My favorites were the colubus monkeys, they were very sociable and were fearless. They'd come up to you and touch you, or just sit by you and hang out while you watched the sunset. It's discouraged to feed them, but I didn't follow the rules and freely gave them fruit to eat, which in turn made me a lot of friends. They did not harm me or threaten me, and loved to come and spend time with me. They were my friends in Kenya. My best memory isn't just one, the whole time there was great and memorable. Lots of things happened to me and I enjoyed most of my time there.

Crosssing the Equator

by grets

The equator is an imaginary line which runs around the belly of the earth. Crossing it takes on a ceremonial significance and every time we have done so on land, a photo stop has been called for. This was the first time of several.

Smaller reptiles

by grets

It is not just the large cats or plains game that give you lpeasure when you go on a safari in Kenya, many of the smaller animals can be just as rewarding. Both David and I love to see lizards and geckos, and in Kenya you can find many colourful species such as this one in Meru National Park.

Flowers

by grets

Depending on the time of year you travel, the flora in Kenya can be spectacular. Some of my favourites are the Jacaranda tree, the African Tupli Tree, the Bougainvilia, the Hibiscus (pictured) and many many others. Don't miss the Flame Trees of Thika.

Jacaranda Trees

by grets

I was totally captivated by the beautifully blue-flowering Jacaranda trees. This was the first time I had seen anything like it, and I loved the way the fallen petals colourd the entire ground blue. Standing under the tree in the slight breeze was like standing in a blue snow fall. Magical!

An excellent travel agency

by Saagar

We had a great time dealing with Ostrich Holidays Adventures in Nairobi. We went to their office and asked them to stitch together a small outing cum safari for us. Very friendly and their services were perfect. Being on a safari travel and having few time limitations; the van to ourselves (2 persons), a driver interested in game and nature in general, able to stop and get out to take pictures.

Visit a school

by Maeve_81

I've visited the Macharia Primary School in Nanyuki and it was amazing!Check out my travelogue. It's a much better idea to give all your pens, hats, ... to the schoolchildren than to children begging at the street.Don't encourage begging! Stimulate the children who want to go to school!

Nairobi notes

by skatzcatz

When in Nairobi and your looking for a place to rest up from the ever present street touts try the following places:Kenyatta road and the carpark in the middle of the street, next to bank guards, fast food shops or internet cafe's.Further into Nairobi you'll find a good choice of stalls amongst some hidden alleyways selling clothes, shoes, phone covers, bags, watches, fake labels etcA good place to feel safe taking photo's is the islands or somewhere in the middle of roads.Buy newspapers from shops etc using this as a point of contact with a local to seek information but also to read up on local events.Notice the gardens surrounded by barbed wire and most houses in a compound or with a guard plus barbed wire.
