Favorite thing: Banks are open from Monday to Friday: 09:00-14:00 (16:30 in the major cities). The airport banks are open until midnight every day.
No need to change Euros to US dollars when you go to Kenay.
Euros are mostly welcome.
If you have US dollars check the date of issue. It is very important because no bank will accept US notes with an old issue date (before 2000).
Also don't carry worn out notes. Choose the newest because you might find trouble in changing them.
In case you accidentally have some notes which are really old, try to give them at the airport duty free shops. Pretend that you have no idea about it. They will accept them.
(At least this is what happened to us)!!

Favorite thing: Very often you can see Policemen at the side of the roads.
We have a Jeep 4 X 4 and our local driver tells us that Police wants to be bribbed but not from big cars like ours!
They always stop smaller cars, and ask for money. They can ask for any amount they wish.
They will never stop you if you have a big car.
Also we were curious why he was washing the car every morning, and we were told that Cars that are clean are never stopped as well.

Favorite thing: Hi there, the easiest way for you will be to buy a portable modem, ( size of a Flashdisk) from cell phone service providers there is 1. Safaricom 2. Zain Africa 3. Orange
I would suggest you buy "Orange modem" which is the cheapest and goes for only 2000kshs ( abt 25 USD) then from there you just top up your credit balance with a internet scratch card which you can easily buy from the nearest shop.
hope it helps.
gd day!

Favorite thing: Kenya is a well known grower and seller of coffee beans all over the world. In Nairobi and other Kenyan places, the product is controlled by the Coffee Board and planters union. The union serves 300 coffee societies with 700,000 members, mainly small-scale Kenyan farmers so is a vital cog in Kenya's economy.
The current situation is a bit dire with Kenya Planters' Co-operative Union (KPCU) recently placed under receivership.
You can see the main coffee mill of the KPCU in Nairobi. The original Mill apparently burnt down in the late 1950's so the one in this photo is the new version.

Favorite thing: Being in an old English colony, Nairobi has many aspects of the old and new with several reminders of where Nairobi and Kenya have come from and maybe where it is going toward. From the old style McMillan Memorial Library to the slums in the North there is an eclectic mix of buildings. In town there are also a couple of Mosques, a building with its side desgned as a face and a fabulous old Church.

Favorite thing: My first view of Nairobi was a drive from Kenyatta International Airport to my Hotel - Panafric. The first Arfican animal I saw was a really ugly looking bird - a Marabou Stork. The taxi driver told me the bird was also called the 'undertaker bird' due to its shape from behind. There are lots of these birds living on and circling around some large trees as you come into Nairobi.

Favorite thing: Whenever we go in so-called exotic destination, the most common questions we ask are, is it safe place, what is the food like, what about water, local people etc? Of course, you have to undertake certain precautions like vaccination against the yellow feaver and pills against the malaria, but do we really need to read all those stupid things which might be found on the internet or listening the huge list of awornings telling by our travel agents?
I've found a site on the internet according to which Nairobi is called "Nairobbery" and is known as one of the most dangerous place on earth. White tourist is seriously aworned not to move more than 100 meters aside from the hotel area and, in no case should go out of the hotel during the dark. Let me tell you, after my experience, it was nothing but the rubbish and ofence to all citizens of Nairobi.
