It is advisible to take the taxi when hanging around in the evening hours. First, because it is very cheap and second because this guys know where the good restaurants are. I wanted to have some european food and the taxi driver suggested me "Trattoria" which is well know Italian restaurant in Nairobi. The restaurannt itself is situated in not friendly area, especially for the white people, and I was suggested not to pull out my camera. Later in the evening I saw with my own eyes, it was a good suggestion.
Favorite Dish: It is indeed the real Italian restaurant not the fake one. As a first dish I've ordered "spaghetti, aglio, olio e peperoncino", a traditional Italian dish which can proof weather the cook is Italian or not. To tell you the truth, better than this you cannot get even in Italy. The second dish was mixed grillled meat, not that soft but pretty good. My companion and I had a bottle of red Italian wine which was of acdceptable quality. The dinner for two cost me about 2.500 Kshs, which is less than 30 euros.

For delicious espressos and other coffee drinks in Nairobi, try the Java Coffee House. They also serve fresh fruits juices and Kenyan tea in case you're not a coffee drinker. If you're feeling peckish, they also sell food like sandwiches and hotdogs. However, the coffee is the best!

They serve a lot of Piri Piri style food here. The quality is not top of the line, but if you want a regular place that isn't putridly bad (like Hooter's), then my verdict is that it is safe to eat here.

Okay. The only reason I ate here is because it seems to be growing as a tradition in my travels. Of course we have Hooters in the U.S. (which this is nowhere similar to), but when I was in Tripoli, Lebanon I saw one, so I figured I would check this place out too for the heck of it. I realized too late that we were the only ones eating in the entire restaurant, even though the place was packed. The people I was with barely got into their burgers before giving up (they said it tasted pretty putrid) and my Vegetable Swahili was good, but had a lot of salt in it. Don’t bother going in here unless you just want a beer while you watch television or relax.

The decor of this restaurant (and the hotel in general) is very good and the food matches the scenery pretty well, even though it is just a buffet style. The quality and style of the food is very very good. This is no buffet of junk.

You have to be a guest of the hotel to eat at The Terrace, but hey - whatever it takes to grow my Nairobi page! So I will write about it. For a buffet style place, it is actually pretty good and the selection is interesting and unique. They have a lot of regional food that is not so odd or strange where people won't like it. They have two buffet lines at dinner time - the salad buffet and the dinner buffet. They also serve other meals as well. This is where you can get the 1 schilling breakfast buffet.

They serve a lot of peri peri style food here as well as several other things. I wouldn't say that the food is the greatest I have ever had, but after the Hooters disaster, I am just glad to be able to eat somewhere that isn't totally nasty and might make people sick. If you are passing by it, now you won't have to wonder if it is any good.

But I went to this place two days in a row - and it was even better the second time I went. It's great to wander and find your gems. I stumbled onto it by accident on my way to something else that visually caught my eye. The design and decor just sucked me right in, so I had to have lunch. The owner came right up to me and introduced herself. She also informed me that they had been open only a few days. Well hopefully she does very well because the place deserves to be a hot spot. First off the restaurant is really on the back porch of a home...that is painted very bright orange. The kitchen is visible from where you sit, so it is kind of homey and relaxing. Plus the way it is lightly, but tastefully, decorated helps too. Overall the place is just plain good. The food is good. The way it is designed and the decor is good. The service is good. Everything is good. I think it'd be an especially good place to take your wife or girlfriend to.

I will admit that I have not had a lot of Indian food in my time. But I know good food when I eat it, and this food was very good. The service was excellent as well and would be good enough for any serious restaurant in the United States. The setup since it is served family style was very elegant and you can sit there and watch the cooks do their work through the windows that are between the restaurant and the kitchen area.

Normally I wouldn’t be too keen about a western style restaurant while visiting a foreign country. The problem is that the food is just too good to knock in the least bit. Yeah, I ordered a blue cheese burger, but it was good! The décor is very nice as well (at least at the location at The Junction where I was)…plus they have free wireless available.
P.S. Apparently they are very well known for their coffee here. They serve and sell the Kenya AA grade, as well as a few others. A bunch of people I know bought a bunch to take home from here.
