Bangkok: The Thai Restaurant that does not serve Thai food
frankhesse profile photo
frankhesse 7 reviews

I felt like having some nice Thai food the other day and looked up into my guide book where to go. I picked up a place call Bangkok (can't be wrong).
Unfortunately there was not a single Thai dish on the menu. It's basically a chinese restaurant. It's decent chinese place and very chinese deco. To be fair to the place it is now called Bangkok Chinese Restaurant.

The place seemed a little spooky - I still believe the waiters are mind-readers as the served the food in less than 3 minutes after we ordered it. Even quicker than a microwave job ! and it looked fresh !

It can be a little pricey - we paid 3500 KSH for two with wine and apperitifs

Favorite Dish: We took the sizzling prawms and Chicken in black beans sauce. Not bad at all

The Safaricom Park: An Alternative to The Carnivore

Well it is pretty much like at The Carnivore i.e. as-much-as-you-can-eat with the classic Barbecue with pork, beef, lamb, chicken, and the wild animals.
The food was fine even though you could notice that the turn around is not as great as at The Carnovor so you wonder how fresh is the piece of meat in your plate. But it was fine.

The best part of the meal was the 45 minute show starting from 9:00 everyday. The Show was tribes combined with modern dances - the acrobatic dancers were spectacular.

if you are bored you can go to the Safari Cats next door - be aware they bite !

Favorite Dish: No choice there - it's the African style Barbecue

Mandhari Restaurant is the main restaurant of the Nairobi Serena Hotel, which is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. It's a one of Kenya's finest restaurants where sophisticated international cuisine is offered amidst elegant surroundings.

Carnivores!

The lads - Nairobi

The Carnivore complex, 10 mins form city centre or 10 mins from Nairobi park services is a huge complex with bars, disco and restaurants. Here you'll find Simba's restaurant that does great food.(650 shillings for 2 courses)
The Boulevard hotel does food in the city but its very expensive. I tried to blag a free breakfast as i had a friend staying there, they sussed it out and i had to cough up 610shilling($10) just for a breaky!
The pizzas in town are good and well priced.
Nairobi Park services does good food at very good prices.

Ok, not that I ate there, so I can't recommend it, but I just thought it was hilarious to see a Hooters right there in downtown Nairobi... I stopped and had a beer, it was well, not quite like the ones I'm used to!

There is a restaurant here that only serves game animals. (forgot the name, but it's famous in Nairobi) This is decidedly for carnivorous persons. Vegetarians will be aghast at the sight of people eating animals you see at safaris!!
Some of the game deers/antelopes tastes great.

THE CARNIVORE
A unique experience in Nairobi, though still a classic among all kind of tourists. This big restaurant outside Nairobi is the best place to try some game food in its free buffet: impala, zebra, giraffe, elephant... and, of course, the Souvenir Shop.

Carnivore Restaurant is great!! It is expensive, but you won't forget the experience or go home hungry.
This is an all-you-can eat meat-eaters dream. If you are a vegetarian don't even think about going there!!
The staff bring around big roasts on spits and carve you off slices. The meat included beef, pork, lamb, chicken, sausage, and three game meats (zebra, crocodile and impala). They keep bringing it until you surrender by raising a white flag.
