Betty and Me by Zanzibargirl See My travelogue for more details. Put quite simply though. This is a must experience. Watch as Giraffe lick pellets right from your hand with a long blue tongue, or Latch onto them right out of the sky - catching it like popcorn. It is also a great place to take kids. There were families there, and the kids really loved getting to feed the giraffe and see the other animals. Not a zoo, but even better, the Giraffe Centre is a must see and do hands on with animals experience. If you want to go to Africa to not only see the animals, but have an experience with them too, this is the perfect place. The area around KICC Tower is considered as the heart of the town. It is where main government buildings are situated like the Parliament which is marked by the clock tower. The whole area is very bussy because not far from here there is the Central Railway Station. The locals who work here in the government buildings, both woman and man, wear western clothes only but, my impression is, they are not feeling comfortable in it. Also, they do not look stylish, having problems with putting together the colours of shirt, tie and shoes with suits or ladies costumes. Leave a Comment

Not much of the colonial architecture can be seen in the city centre because Nairobi is fast developing town and most of the constructions dates from last twenty or so years. This one, nowadays turned into the Oakwood hotel, is situated very close to the Hilton hotel. National and University Library is another one and rare example of the colonial architecture. David Sheldrick Elephant Feeding Time by Zanzibargirl See young orphaned animals being reared in as close to their natural environment as possible. For more detail, see my photos on my travelogue... however... just for some quick insight, you can get up close and personal and touch a baby elephant and see them suckle a bottle, roll in the mud and over each other. A great organisation, protecting wildlife especially those short in number. They have rare creatures as well. When I was there there was a baby black rhino. A rare sight to see. Definately worth a look. Open for 1 hr. Daily from 11:00 am only. Leave a Comment

Again, one of the places that had been touted as a "Must do" while in Kenya. We were glad to have come to it but would not consider it a "Must DO" if you're on a limited time schedule. Long drive from Nairobi (about 30=45 mins) through some seedy then beautiful areas of Nairobi. Everything seems to co-exist in sharp contrast in Kenya...then, driving past Karen Blixen's house museum and unto the spacious gardens which are Giraffe Manor. It was built in the 1930's by a british Lord; Sir David Duncan and emcompasses over 120 acres of beautiful land. The Ngong Hills are the ones depicted in the movie "Out of Africa" written by Karen Blixen. It serves as a breeding refuge for Rothchild giraffes wihch at one point were highly endangered. The conservatory and re-hab center is actually where the giraffes are more approachable. You're able (for a nominal fee), enter and walk up unto the platform/treehouse where you stand eye to eye with various giraffes and feed them pellets. If you "swing that way", you may place pellets in your mouth and giraffes will kiss you as they remove the pellet. Before you judge - C'mon, you know you wish you could! How many other times will you get a chance for a picture like the one on this page!?! Leave a Comment

Giraffe Centre by sachara In the Langata Giraffe Centre you can see a few Rothschild giraffes. After you climb the circular wooden structure you can look the giraffes in the eye. In this wooden structure you can also have a look at a small exhibition about the giraffes. by thelittlevoice A grand building in leafy grounds, the museum has an interesting range of cultural and natural history exhibits. There're 2 floors. Upstaris are huge galleries of stuffed wildlife and displays on Kenyan tribal groups. Downstairs there are re-creations of rock art from Tanzania, an exhibition of hominid fossils from Lake Turkana and fossils, mineral and shell displays. The admission is 200KSh for adults. I was there on Dec 12 which is Kenya's Independence Day and Kenyans could enter for free so it was quite crowded. Open 9.30am-6pm daily. Leave a Comment

orphanage by sachara It was nice to see the baby elephants with their keepers at feeding time.Thatīs the only moment visitors are allowed to visit the orphanage. You can get a lot of information about the Davids Sheldrike Wildlife Trust. There are newsletters and booklets for sale. Itīs also possible to adopt an elephant orphan. So we adopted Tomboi, rescued in the Samburu National Park. Back home we get regularly newsletters by e-mail. Meanwhile Tomboi is allready moved to the Tsavo NP to go back into the wild wthin some time. Secretary bird! by diosh We went on safari into park, starting at 6.30a.m.one morning.-just 2 of us and our driver.Peter. Our driver was so knowledgable about all the wildlife we saw.We had to make a list of the birdlife, we saw so much! We were within 10 feet of a giraffe, as soon as we entered the park! Peter knew where to find the animals for us to see. We got quite near to rhino, buffalo, ostriches, wildebeest, hyenas,.An incredible experience. The birds were too numerous to list, but one of the most extraordinary was the secretary bird! The views from the highest point in the park were out of this world. Altogether, an incredible experience. Leave a Comment
