Taxi driving is extremely cheap, especially for us Europeans who are used on high prices back home. Of course, the taxi-cars are in pretty bad conditions, both inside and outside, but you get to use on it very quickly especially if comparing it with Matatu. I paid 1.200 Kshs for approximately 45 minutes ride from the airport into the city center, and it is the normal price here. For rides inside the town, you should negotiate the price before your driving starts. Just to mentioned, for one km of ride, from your hotel to the restaurant, waiting in front included (hour or more), you shouldn't pay more than 1.000 Kshs. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

My return ticket, Mombasa-Nairobi-Mombasa, cost me 160 euros which is pretty expensive comparing it with the other transporting options inside the country. As a metter of fact, there exist double price, one for the locals which is twice cheaper and one for the tourists. Thy flight is about 45 minutes, if on time, but you never know weather it starts at 10:00 or 11:00. Pole pole, like the locals say. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

There are several local bus liners in Nairobi and City Hoppa is probably the best one. Do not expect very comfortable ride or clean interiors but it is definetely the cheapest way for exploring the city of Nairobi and its surroundings. I took it for the first time to get to Kibera, which is about 10 kilometre far from the city centre. The ride, in one direction, cost me only 20 kes, which is approximately 0,02 euros. Unbeliveable price for such a ride, especially if comparing it with the taxi. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Actually, there are few semafors in whole of Nairobi but nobody respect them at all. There excist one rule only, being rude and arrogant, as much as possible, otherwise you risk not to move from the spot at all. It's amazing as a fact but, in all that anarchy I saw just a few car crashes with minor damages. Most of the people, however, drive very slowly except for the matatu boyz but they are very skillfull drivers. The only semafors, in functions, can be seen along the Kenyatta Avenue, which is located in the heart of the city. It is why there are endless traffic jams during the whole day. During the city tour - Nairobi from the vehicle by Zanzibargirl Venture Africa is a very safe reliable way of getting around Nairobi. They are are easy to find with a desk within the Nairobi Airport arrivals lounge (just look for the wooden booth on arrival with the Venture Africa sign) and they offer not only airport connections to your hotel, but can also arrange day trips to all of Nairobi's sights for you. For me I did a day tour of the Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Wildlife trust and the City with my own personal driver named William. I found this to be extremely informative, a great chance to meet one of the locals as my very friendly driver was local to Kenya and of course in a city such as Nairobi safety is a must. I wouldn't have wanted to travel Nairobi any other way. Venture Africa can also arrange a transfer to other nearby cities to Nairobi which can also be negotiated with the bookings desk at the airport. Leave a Comment

One of the latest models :-) by Robert_Hun The fastest (and probably the best) way to/from the airport and within the city is using a taxi. However you MUST bargain every time. For example the official taxi counter at the airport has a fixed price to town (KES 1,200 /USD 17/) but we could bargain for 900. If you take a short trip within the city, you should count with 400-500 Shillings (cca. 6 USD). Don't be surprised if the driver takes a short detour to the filling station to get some fuel for your trip :-) Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by SirRichard THE 'LUNATIC' TRAIN So is called the night train to Mombassa. If you can afford it, take a 1st class compartment, it's nearly 2nd class 'european' standard. A simple dinner is served on board and there is time for breakfast before the train draws into the station. The food is not excellent but the cutlery & dinner service are fron the colonnial times and the waiters are nice and friendly. The train goes through the Tsavo Park, but at night (3-5 in the morning), so you won't have a chance to see the animals. Daily departures at 19:30. Tickets: US$ 107 per person. by TRimer Nairobi's international airport is called Jomo Kenyatta. It is about 20 km from downtown Nairobi. We had a private tour with our own van (pictured here). Leave a Comment Theme: Other

If you can handle it, taking the local matatu's (minibuses) is the best way to get around Nairobi. Incredibly crowded and in varible states of mechanical repair, they are cheap and an essential part oy any Nairobi stay. Keep any valubles at your hotel or well out of sight. Tom Mboyo street in downtown Nairobi is a very hectic street. Especially in the afternoons and nights. This street is the main start for the matatus in the city. Almost all of them are Toyota Hiace packed with locals. The cars makes a lot of noise with honking and shouting for new passengers. A Toyota Hiace can be packed with more than 20 persons, so expect everything else than comfort. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus
