The dance of the Kikuyu's

by duke0123

Nightlife during safari's? Almost impossible. When you're staying on a campsite with a lodge it sometimes happens that there will be a performance. This performance, a traditional dance, was done by some Kikuyu's. Of course, the 'white' people had to join them. After this performance it was possible to dance on modern (well, it was actually from some years ago) music.

by judiasalsera

Nightlife can be considered non-existent, unless you have very good local friends. We went to a very popular club that is supposed to be the best in Mombasa - imagine a school disco in a big building plus a 'beauty contest' among undernourished schoolgirls as an extra. Very disappointing.

THE CARNIVORE!!: THE CARNIVORE!!

by skyediver

yes, i know it sounds strange...but the carnivore is definately the best club in nairobi...ask anyone who's ever been to kenya! wednesday night are the best nights out and it plays a good mix of music from rock/indie to reggae, chart stuff...something for everyone. five bars, good mix of locals and tourists= great place to meet people and i love the outdoor fires, open till 5/6 am depending on how hardcore the crowd is....also good is the pavement on friday and saturday nights... anything goes really.

Jambo Jambo: Listen the hippos songs...

by Cacharel

Once in yr lodge, see a Masai group dance and listen their songs is one of the best evening you can live...and in the night, if you are closed to a hippo camp, don't miss their songs too... Pants and shirts with long sleeves is a must...do not forget to insect repellent instead of yr Cacharel perfume :)

Many people like to go to the Carnivore to eat game meat. I didn't go, so I don't know much about it personally.Usually, at the end of the day, we were pretty tired and we didn't do much in the evenings.

Evenings are generally spent relaxing and talking about the days game drives. After two adrenaline pumping game drives (each day!) I found myself pleasantly exausted. At some of the lodges they will have a educational talk in the evenings. At the Mara Safari club, ours was done by a local Mara tribal elder, Ben. I found the most important part of my wardrobe was my insect repellent! DO NOT LEAVE HOME (or tent) WITH OUT IT!

by DellyM

The hotels provide entertainment with floor shows of traditional dance and tribal style demonstrations etc.We ventured out to one of the local clubs which was heaving with male and female prostitutes. Great if you like that kind of thing but I thought it was all a bit sleazy. Usual nightclub gladrags.

In my opinion, the best night life in Kenya is overlooking a floodlit watering hole from any one of several game lodges! I enjoyed staying at The Ark in the Aberdares (the Aberdare mountain range forms a section of the eastern rim of the Great Rift Valley in west-central Kenya, northeast of Naivasha and Gilgil and just south of the Equator. The range has an average height of 11,000 feet (3,350 m. The Aberdares slope gradually east and southeast before the ground rises again to the cone of Mount Kenya (17,058 feet [5,199 m]). This higher altitude makes for a cool, almost chilly, lush rainforest area. If that sounds like an encyclopedia it's because I just looked it up myself!) The Ark, built to look and feel like Noah's ark, overlooks a saltlick and water hole. At the Ark, if, during the night, any of the big game animals (elephant, rhino, lions, leopards) come up the staff rings a bell...

Zanzebar: Zanzebar

by ngaka

A fairly western style bar with a bit of everything - pool, satilite TV, dancing, meals, etc. Frequented by a middle-upper class clientel of which many take quite an anti mzungu stance unfortunatley detracting from an otherwise pleasant place to drink.

Well, it has to be Carnivores really!!! meat eaters paradise out at Westlands Carnivores is a restaurant which sreves a smogesbord of game meats - we had crocodile, Zebra and others. There is also a dance floor/bar which is open unitl 4 am. It is a bit expensive at 1300KS (about £13) but a great treat
