Nakuru

Favorite thing: I didnt see much of the town itself, just passing throughout on my way to the Nakuru Park. The town of Nakuru look alike to the most of the other Kenyan towns, new constructions all over the place, city market and residential areas. While other towns have pretty big slums in the outskirts, I couldnt see any in Nakuru. Maybe slums excisting here too but on the other side of the town, towards its north.
The picture arent of good quality because I snaped them through the glass window.

Entrace to Lake Nakuru National Park

Favorite thing: Lake Nakuru is well know animal resort situated north of Nairobi, about two hours of driving by car. Due to a road conditions, distance in Kenya is very irrelevant, also, it depend on how many police road-checking point one could meet. The road to Nakuru town is pretty good and safe, the only problem, as usual is wheter one is used to drive on the right side.&s*

Fondest memory: Wherever the tourists go around, whichever resort or musem are visiting, they will feel like disciminated or atleast defrauded. It's because of the double prices for the admission. If visiting Lake Nakuru National Park, the admission for residents is 1.500 shillings (15 euros) while at the same time "wazungus" have to pay 6.000 shillings. I find it outrageos.

Favorite thing: what ussually attracts tourist to lake Nakuru National park is the bird sanctuary but as for me its the exclusive, one of kind vegetation that makes the place so solely beautiful!. About 550 different plant species including the unique and biggest euphorbia forest in Africa, Picturesque landscape and yellow acacia woodlands.

Favorite thing: Our favorite part of Kenya was simply absorbing and knowning that due to it's immense, we would need to catalog and jot down for posterity as much as possible in a journal.
It is easy to become confused and awed due to it's immensity and overwhelming experiences, especially when you first arrive.

Took me back to my young days as a child on Christmas day when I didn't know which way to look first under the Christmas tree!

Carry a journal, make as many notes as you can and, if traveling with others, take the time to compare notes and cross reference experiences each may have had within the same journey!

Fondest memory: Our fondest memory was all collaborating during the mid afternoon rest period which is common in safaris. You are given the opportunity to relax and either take a nap, soak some sun around the pool or walk amongst the gardens at the lodge.
We chose to sit, the group of 5, near the pool or at the bar writing in our journals and copying notes off one another.

It was also a great source of accurate information which I am now using here on VT.
By getting 5 different peoples perspective on an experience or an accomodation, I feel we were able to form a more unbiased rating system for our tips.

Just Relax - Do nothing to best enjoy!

Favorite thing: Sometimes, the most enjoyable time can be spent doing nothing. This is particularly true of Kenya's National parks.
In Amboseli, quietly sitting outside our cabin's patio we could listen to elephants trumpeting in the early morning or a lion calling out to his mates to mark his territory in the middle of the night.
If you've ever watched a television special and only seen/heard this on TV you will gain a new appreciation once you witness it for yourself.

Make the most of your trip, absorb the sounds, the smells and the surroundings which is Kenya. You never know if you'll have another opportunity to say "Hey, I just heard a lion roar"!

Entry gate of Lake nakuru N. P.

Favorite thing: So the first Wild reserve we did visit during our Kenya - Uganda trip was the Lake Nakuru National Park. I was really looking forward to see some game in the wild, as I really enjoyed the game driving a few years ago, in South Africa together with Tom and Gonnie (aka Tompt on VT).

This National Park is located near the city Nakuru.

This salt lake is the ideal place to see Flamingos. 1/4 of the world population of Flamingos can be seen here.

As we passed the gate of the Lake Nakuru National Park, I had noticed that there were two big iron images of a Rhino attached at the entry gate (see pictures).

And indeed the first game we did see as we drove through the park, were Rhinos.

Fondest memory: The thousands of Flamingos.

Hippos posing as rocks

Favorite thing: We were standing at the shore for some minutes discussing the rocks in the centre of the lake,.divided as to whether they were in fact rock, or hippos. The majority won with Rocks.

Fondest memory: After watching the flamingos for a further few minutes, the rocks in the lake got up and walked off!

WET NOSES!

Favorite thing: Looking at these BUFFALO and the HORNS.
The HORNS are not that big! Really didn't see that before. Not like in the MARA or the
TSAVO'S! They are big and fat! But the HORNS are a bit on the small size. Just try to keep in mind what your looking at.
