Elephants at the waterhole

You can't stay up late at night because the game drives start very early. However, from my balcony I spent the evening having a few drinks on my balcony and watching the animals coming to drink at the waterhole.

This is when the real action comes alive because the animals are more active during this time. I saw hundred of wildebeest marching into the area as well as a huge herd of elephants.

There is an open-air bar at the hotel if you prefer to sit there and watch the animal activity. Complimentary coffee & tea is provided, or you can order the local brew, Tusker.

Jaguar

With this being the African bush, nightlife is limited to what is laid on in the lodge. There are no local bars you can wander along to, or a promenade where you can go for an evening stroll. Most lodges have a bar, but as game drives tend to start very early in the morning, most people don't stay up late.

Bgulia Lodge laid on its own night time entertainment, in the form of a jaguar. They lay out bait (usually a lamb carcass) in a tree by the restaurant and you sit in wait until the jaguar turns up. The tree is floodlit, and once the jaguar has settled down with his food, it's OK to use flash photography.

Do you see the YELLOW-WHITE TREE in the
back ground? Just beyond the camp line!
The ELEPHANTS did that at night! Did I mention we had a lone LION also near by!
He started at one end of the camp ground. By about 4am, he must have crossed paths with the ELEPHANTS! Becasue, the ELEPHANTS LET OUT A GOOD TRUMPET!!
GREAT STUFF!!!!!
Time to say bye!

Our last night in TSAVO-WEST. We had ELEPHANTS along our bush line. Later,
we heard shots coming from the main gate.
It was the: KENYA WILDLIFE SERVICE,
letting off blanks to scare the ELEPHANTS
away from the other camp. But they came not too far from us.All we could do was light a :
BIG-FIRE. Maybe they will stay away!
But I, being a little nutty. Wanted them to come in!!

Keep the fire going!! You hear many animals around!! What a treat! To go use the shower,

hoping nothing was around!!
