WASN'T A RHINO!

by safardreams

The MASAI-MARA, second trip 9/2002. Tryingto see RHINO! We thought we had one. This BUFFALO is so BIG!! The way the sun was hitting it. It was easy to make that mistake. But good none the less! I the BIG-FIVE. We were hardly 20 feet away!!

meeting Masai

by stonefree

People there were friendly and familiar with tourist. They were very foppish and wore clothes, shoes, watches and so on that they had gotten ones from the travellers who had dropped in the village quite well.

Flamingo's paradise

by stonefree

Not only flamingoes but pelicans and many other waterfowls inhabit the Lake Nakuru. It seems that the surface of the lake is dyed in pink with being coverd by the large crowd of flamingoes. You can also see hippos and water bucks by the lake.

Somebody, explore please

by stonefree

It was said that Nairobi was dangerous for going out alone those days. Cowardly, I did not come from the hotel outside according to that warnings. I totally repent about that...The wistaria roadside trees on the main street seen from the window of the hotel were beautiful.

Samburu National Reserve

by duke0123

Kenya has many wild parks and of course all of them are beautiful. One of these wild parks is Samburu National Reserve. This national park is not that large but there are a lot of animals. Because the park is relatively small there is a good chance to see a lot of wild animals.Besides the animals the scenery of this park is interesting and fascinating too: the savannahs, the forest near the border of the Ewaso Ng'iro river and rocks. The park is also the living area of the Samburu.

The silence of Tiwi Beach

by duke0123

After traveling in Kenya it is very nice to relax at the beach of the Indian Ocean. A perfect place to do this is iwi Beach. Tiwi Beach is the cleanest beach of the east coast of Kenya and not as busy as Diani Beach or Malindi. When I was there, there were hardly any travelers.Tiwi Beach with its white sand is also a perfect place to go snorkeling or diving. The only disadvantage of this beach can be that the evenings are boring but if you are tired of traveling for a while this won't be a problem.Besides sunbathing or joining watersports you can also walk a little around in the forest in the neighbourhood of the beach. Interesting is also having a meal in one of the local restaurants. Try the local food (bean-soup and chapati). Very tasty and extremely cheap.

The beauty of the Masai Mara

by duke0123

There are many National Reserves in Kenya but the Masai Mara is one of the most beautiful of them. You really have to visit this park when you are in Kenya. The Masai Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti in Tanzania. The park is about 1.500 km² and is located in the south of Kenya. The scenery of the Masai Mara is very varied: grasland, woodland, busland and river forest and there is a great diversity of wildlife. If you're lucky you can spot the 'big five': lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. The Masai, who are living in this area, is the most famous tribe in Kenya. Their main food exists of milk, millet, maize and blood of their cattle. They live from cattle-breeding and they live in detached huts (bomas). When the Masai are going to a new location in this area they leave these huts behind.

Walking on Mount Kenya

by duke0123

A beautiful scenery you can find around Mount Kenya. The scenery around this highest mountain of Kenya is very divers. The summits are permanently covered with snow and ice in spite of the equator, where this mountain is situated. It's very nice to walk around in this area and it's even possible you see a lot of wild animals.

Safari

by Mykke

As I've said in previous sections my main concern in Kenya is with the people. In fact in several visits to the country we've only done one safari!. It was a one-day affair and we travelled through Tsavo East Park to Voi Lodge. We were so impressed that in 2003 we intend to do at least a night at the place. The picture below is from the special hide that you access via a steep flight of stone steps and an underground tunnel. Right in front is a waterhole at which all sorts of animals drink. Having made our way back up from this particular shot a whole herd of elephants arrived, but I was too tired to trek back down (wasn't so well into VT then!). You also have a superb panoramic view of the park from the lodge itself.
