Kwela's General Tip

by Kwela

Near the summit of Sani pass on my way down, I met two European tourists who walked from the bottom, and they were pleased when I offered them some chilled Windhoek Light beer from my portable freezer.I think one should walk the pass, for the view is breathtaking.

Lesotho is an incredibly beautiful and remote country -I recommend it highly for anyone in the eastern part of South Africa (about 3-4 hrs from Durban). Amazing mountains and horseback riding (The Basotho pony).

Wow. Lesotho was a very dry and stark country. Ironically, this was one of the things that made it beautiful. There was a lot of soil erosion, which led to the formation of beautiful canyon-like structures in some areas, while, unfortunately creating dongas in others (a 'donga' is when the soil blows away, and since there are few plants to hold it, the ground in some cases collapses, forming chasms.) It is the place where I first fell in love.

I entered from the western side at Butha Buti, travelled northwest into the Maluti Mountains. Not many inhabitants there, just a Lodge caleed Oxbow at that time. The place I went to only had Chalets. Sitting on a long drop loo overlooking the tips of the mountains all caoped with snow.

Don't forget your passport!
