  • This is an easy problem to avoid – if you read this tip before you go. Lesotho’s currency is the Loti with plural being Maloti. It is tied to the South African Rand on an equal basis and you can pay in either currency. The problem? Outside of Lesotho no one will want Maloti from you and if you find somewhere to exchange it back in South Africa – be prepared to loose a lot on the conversion.

Simple. Take Rands and ask for change in Rands - if they have it. Don’t keep a lot of Maloti. What little you have you can use near the border to buy a cold drink or something.

....- "but because we are nothing, the planners planned and we are not part of the planning. "

..... " Not surprisingly, however, the most common cause of anxiety in these accounts is loss of self-sufficiency. Many express foreboding as to how losing their land will affect them not just in terms of livelihood, but also self-esteem. "

for travelles and backpackers alike, time is no a dilemma compared to Toursits with minimal times at different stops on their itinerary.
    >>> the extra time we have to find out more about the basic utilitarian grass broom e.g. who made it, where was it made, who are members of the sellers family, etc etc.
    >>> in todays air travel and baggage / overweight dilemmas. there are so many should do and must dos. yet how do we overcome certain acts of consciousness or beliefs, whern we cannot but those bulky or heavy cratf items
    >>> what is the alternative ??

Well, some hotels are overprized, for example the Leribe Hotel, the Crocodil Inn and Mashai Lodge.
Lesotho Sun and Maseru Sun Hotel are not bad, but R 700 for a room is too expensive.
But actually, there are no tourists traps in Lesotho, not yet. There are not enough tourists so far and the mentality of the Basotho is not for cheating.

Well, I am no palaeontologist, but I would have say the most underwhelmed I have ever been at a tourist site was between this place and the "colored earth" in Mauritius. At least in Mauritus I knew that the earth was, in fact, earth. Here, the only thoughts that my brain would allow were of some guy reading a magazine article about how a dinosaur finding had boosted tourism dollars and it led to him going outside and playing in the mud until he made a shape that resembled a dinosaur footprint, put a wall around it, a sign by the road and devised a payment method. Call me cynical, but that's what I felt.
