For wildlife and nature enthusiasts, the Sapo National Park is great. Located in Sinoe County, it is (was?) a pristine forest wilderness home to a great variety of plants and animal species (including elephant, leopard, giant forest hog and the rare pygmy hippo). The park is only accessible on foot and consists largely of rainforest, which has never been logged, making it Western Africa's largest untouched tract of rainforest.
In my travel's--the beach's here are of the best. Very clean, few people, and lined with palms in some places. Shopping here is fun and a great bargain. Locally made arts and crafts, especially those hand carved items of wood, are fine quality.

Truth is, I never went beyond the airport boundary. I was there during the early part of the civil war in '92. Gunfire was a constant background noise.
The Firestone Rubber Plantation, one of the largest in the world, is an interesting day excursion from Monrovia. Definitely a step back into another era.
The Kpa-Tawe Waterfalls are about 4 hours away from Monroavia via 4-wheel drive.
The beaches were beautiful, clean and almost empty. Some of the nicest beaches are found near Robertsport.
