Golden Beach Restaurant: Delicious thin crust pizza! Mouth watering lobster

This restaurant is located on 2nd Street Sinkor in Monrovia, Liberia right next to the United Nations building. I came here with a group of co-workers and was surprised to see how close it was to the UN building. The restaurant itself is located along the ocean front, and we chose to sit next to the water. We started with a combination thin crust pizza that was perfectly made and delicious! It rivaled that of famous pizza places like Cheeseboard pizza in berkeley, CA. Then for individual plates I ordered a lobster thermidor and a poached lobster. The lobster pieces were amazingly fresh and delicious! They also only costed me about $20 US dollars for both. This is my new spot to eat at daily in Monrovia Liberia. The thin crust pizza was masterfully made and just the right amount of thin crust and fresh vegetables and sausage.

Find a local chop shop or small restaurant: Chicken Palm Butter Soup over Rice

This is not butter and not really a soup, but really a sauce placed over rice. You can not find it many places in the world, and nowhere is it as good as made in Liberia. This food will make any place you find it special. I guess you could find some bad palm butter --maybe too much oil or not enough or too much pepper, but not in Liberia. For me this is a world class Liberian meal. The sauce is made from fresh palm nuts. (The canned palm butter from Ghana is not an adequate substitute.) It requires cooking and mashing plus adding some pepper. Of course, you can use other meat, but for me chicken is best. I am sorry that I can not describe the taste, you will just have to try it.

The food at Golden beach restaurant is so good! The restaurant is owned by a Vietnamese-American man who use to own and be the Head Chef at Chez Christophe a French Restaurant in San Francisco, CA. He's a really nice and friendly guy.I really like that the restaurant is on the beach. The restaurant moves its tables right next to the water for you at your request. There is nothing like having ocean water at your feet while eating delicious French food! There's no other experience like it in town. The french onion soup and filet mignon with mushroom sauce is to die for. I really enjoy the pizza as well the thin crust is nice and crunchy and sooo fresh tasting. I would have to say the french onion soup is delicious it has just the right amount of port wine and cheese baked on top of it. Small roadside restaurants called "cook shops" are quite good and often feature "jollof rice" along with an array of tasty stews. Most cooking is done outdoors on a three-stone hearth. Very atmospheric! You'll find dishes like goat soup, cabbage cooked with bacon and pigs feet, sweet-potato leaves with fish, palm nuts with shrimp in fish or chicken stock, and dried fish. My favorite is "check rice, a combination of rice and platto leaves or okra. For dessert you might try sweet-potato, coconut or pumpkin pie. For those with less of a sweet tooth, the Liberian rice bread is actually made with mashed bananas and is delicious! Beware for the allergic: peanuts are used in cookies and desserts of all kinds. Wash all this down with a cool gigner beer!

This was the only functioning restaurant in Ganta; a place for expats mainly. We had dinner in this place twice, together with our hosts and friends, and had a great time there.
