Libya is the country...

by gamalfreedom

Libya is the country situated in the middle of the North African coast, surrounded by Egypt and Sudan from the east, Tunisia and Algeria from the west, and Chad and Niger from the south. With around two thousand kilometers of beautiful sandy beaches and a delightful sunny climate, Libya would make a perfect holiday destination. The climate is neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summer; and like most Mediterranean countries, Libya is a place with thousands of years of history. Deep in the interior, the desert still hides cities founded on the wealth of the camel caravans which once crossed the Great Sahara. Indeed, Libya must be the best...

Traveling through...

Traveling through TripolitaniaLibya. Warm sun, warm hearts. A great country with a great history, a country of breathtaking beauty. High mountain chains are just one of the beauties of its fabulous landscape with green fields and sun-drenched Mediterranean beaches. The desert, watered by magnificent oases, extends far into Africa.Fabulous villages and cities scattered amongst meadows, with oases everywhere. Historical monuments forests, towering mountains... and a warm Libyan Arab welcome.Libya's strategic, geographical position and profound history make it a vital link between the eastern and western parts of the Arab world, and between Europe and Africa. The country has known its ups and downs, but the historical monuments are a testimony of the great Libyan civilization of old. Look at the engravings of the AKAKUS mountains, the drawings in the MATCHANDOUSH caves. The cities of JARMA,...

I was only there for work so didnt see a lot but the desert we flew over was spectacular. I was flying out of the desert on an old F27 and the alarms were going off before we took off.The co-pilot came and stuffed toilet paper around the door to make a seal and stop the alarm ringing.Funny now but wasnt then.

by sphynxxs

see the salt lakes in Edei Ubari. Most famous of them are the Mandara lake (which is rather non-existent by now due to draught and continual lower water levels), most beautiful probably the lake of Umm al Ma (Mother of the water) amidst big dunes of golden Sand, sorrounded by date palms and the rests of an village (the inhabitants of the oasis had been resettled) The place is very much like the picturebook idea of the Sahara most people keep in mind. And while it may be quite fascinating to take a bath in the middle of the desert, you can also stroll across the dunes, dreaming about old caravan routes The Akakus mountains in Southwest Libya, close to the Algerian border. The landscape is dramatic, but softens in the twilight of a late afternoon. Its a place you cannot describe, you have to see it...There are rock paintings as well, preserved since thousands of years.
