EL-BORAAI RESTAURANT(TRIPOLI)

by mahmoud-z

EL-BORAAI RESTAURANT(TRIPOLI) This restaurant has the same atmosphere sence long time, maybe about more than 150years.The prices;with few libyan dinrs you can have the bigest plate with some fruits than comes the special libyan green tea(Tassa khadra).Tolking about the atmosphere;I'll tell you what happened with me 'once I was having a plate of RISHDA,in the table behind me there was setting a worker in the Soagh having his food,in the table befor me the brich consel. Traditional libyan plates like:Rishda belksks,Cuscusi,Fasoolia belkarsha...and other plates.

For Lepcis Magna: use the site restaurantVery handy for the site which really needs more than one day given to it, thus time spent going away from it is time wasted. But it is large enough not to feel crowded and cool when the weather is hot! It also has much better toilets than those at the site carpark (and is immediately adjacent to the carpark. The restaurant toilets can be reached from the outside for men, and just in the lobby for women). This has plain, simple, Libyan fare, like good Libyan soup, salad and lamb or fish.

The restaurant has a pleasant decor, clean and neat with good service and pleasing atmosphere. The only restaurant that we found women serving in, by the way. Good fish, warming Libyan soup and good salad.

For Sabratha: eat at the restaurant at the site.Really handy for a visit to the site unless you take a picnic! The food is good and it enables you to go on with your visit. An excellent parsley omelette, very thin, very green!

The Sefira Restaurant: The Sefira Restaurant

by ChrsStrl

A good place to eat without being fussy or over the top. The muzak is 60's but not intrusive. The plates all seem to be Sheraton, judging by the motif! Good Libyan soup (a slightly spicy to hot, depending on where it is made, concoction). They serve fish beautifully, a skin of a tomato turned into a shade for a small candle that burns on top of the lemon half. Served with chips, asparagus, peppers.

Very much part of the old Tripoli, in the souk, with an upstairs as well as downstairs. Excellent starters of carrot with hot spices; fish cous-cous (excellent and rich with vegetables in sauce); good hot, sweet, tea.

The Forssan Restaurant on the road from Sabratha to Tripoli. The tape is of birdsong and a fountain plays in the centre of the restaurant. The food is very good, and the service friendly and excellent. It comes as a real surprise as the outside does not especially distinguish it from others. The risotto dish of chicken livers and angelica, the sweet and savoury mixture is superb.

The fish restaurant at the roundabout in the Shari Muhamed al Maqri Street. I can't remember the name of the place but the cooking was excellent. It's the street starting at the Green square into the more modern 'Italian style' quarter of Tripoli. The picture shows the fish market in Tripoli: they have small sharks for sale I ate a couscous of camels meat which we bought at a stall by the side of the road from Leptis Magna to Tripoli, prepared by our Lybian friends wife, and it was delicious.

Libyan sweets may not seem strange to you. The libyan house offers various sweets from turkey, italy, syria ,tunisia and of course libya.but the problem is that it is not easy to get these in the restaurant.
