It´s probably best to take a minibus from djerba/Tunisia. Since direct air-connections to Libya are starting very slowly after the Lockerby-embargo, you´ll often find out that your only way into the country is across the border to Egypt or Tunisia
Make sure your visa is in order and get your shots up-to-date.
Airline travel only
Almost no public transportation and what there is is unreliable. Women do not travel alone!!!!!

IN the Sahara, Camel can be arranged
It is not so cheap as you schould think, the price of petrol is about 0,10 eurocent for 1 liter
but you must pay the driver and his car and they have a lot af damage : tires ...
The cheapest way to travel in Libya is by shared taxis , You can trust the drivers.In the Sahara we had a friendly driver for our 4 x 4.
He passed through the deser without GPS .
I flew in back in the 80's but since they were bombed I think you have to sail in from Malta.

I USED A 4X4 FOR THE DESERT.
Some guys from our job decided to take a short cut when inspecting a pipeline and got lost.
They were very lucky that Bedouin tribesmen found them after 3 days.
