Local prepaid SIM cards are sold in many local shops in Cape Maclear. You can buy them almost everywhere. It's much cheaper to use a local SIM card inside Malawi than a foreign SIM card.

There are some few shopping stalls and shops along the main gravel road in Cape Maclear where you can buy handmade crafts.
What to buy: Handmade African crafts like masks. Tribal jewelry like necklase, bracelets and pendants. Batik paintings and wall hangings.
