A museum was built and opened on the 20th of May 2004.Guides are trained to show interessed visitors around and explain to them the history of the region and nearby attractions like the "Mbande Hot Springs". A guide for a day costs about 10 US $! To visit the excavation spot you need your own transport.
Karonga does not have too much of interest for the visitor but there is a discovery trail with 13 different stations to visit, like the "Amstrong Gun" of WW I, the baobab that served as a sniper´s hide or the old "Mandala (Stevenson) Road".The different places are not easy to find. Even most of the villagers don´t know about them. Its possible to hire a guide at the museum or pick up a flyer at their office.
