  • Korea Garden Lodge: Not exactly Korean food but OK anyway

    by hongkong88 Written Mar 25, 2012

I was a bit disappointed because Koreans own the hotel in which the restaurant is located and were much in evidence running the place. The setting is nice outside but covered. The menu is extensive with lot of choices. I had the bulgogi and kimchi and both were OK but not Korean. I mean all you need are some spices to make bulgogi seem authentic. The kimchi was worse then what you can get in a can in a US supermarket chain. Lilongwe has some good places to eat but I wouldn't go out of may way for this one unless I was staying in the hotel. We drove crosstown for the meal and it wasn't worth the effort.

Favorite Dish: The bulgogi didn't taste bad but it just wasn't bulgogi.

"Golden Peacock Restaurant" has one of the best meals I have tasted in Africa. Strange this great restaurant is located in the miserable guesthouse "Golden Peacock Resthouse".

Favorite Dish: Total price of a large beef steaks with rice and vegetables (see photo) and 1 bottle of coke was 1100 MKW (Approx 7 USD).

Mimoza Restaurant: Mimoza Restaurant in Lilongwe market

Restaurant Mimoza is located in the ground floor of Hotel Mimoza. Actually it's a café and bakery. But the food is fresh and taste good. It's also very cheap. A meal with drinks costs not more than 200 MKW (1,5 USD).

Favorite Dish: The location just beside the arrival of the long distance bus is good. I was very hungry after a 12 hours bus trip from Lusaka.

  • Mama Mia: Great Minestrone Soup and Pizza

    by hongkong88 Updated Aug 15, 2011

I ate there twice during a recent trip and enjoyed both dinners. A colleague who visits Lilongwe regularly said it had the best pizza in town. I had two types of pasta and both were good. The minestrone soup is as good as I have had anywhere.

    Favorite Dish: Minestrone soup.

  • Buchannan's Grill: Very Nice Upscale Place

    by hongkong88 Written Aug 16, 2011

Had a very good dinner here during a recent business trip. Went with a businessman who travels to Lilongwe frequently. The soup was excellent and our parties' variety of entrees all got good reviews. The waitstaff is very friendly and the place always has good specials. The owned is very hands on and took an interest in all the guests.

Favorite Dish: The cream of pumpkin soup was actually outstanding.
