There was a Stone cairn erected as a memory of the place where Dr. Laws and his companions pitched up their camp during the first night on the plateau. The two house nearby are “House No.1”; Dr. Laws first house and the “David Gordon Memorial Hospital” that had been the biggest hospital in Central Africa in the early times of Livingstonia.

There is not too much to see in Livingstonia except the magnificent view, but while there its worth to have a look at the church. It was built in 1894 in Scottish style. Inside there are some nice windows to see. The motives in the windows are showing the arrival of David Livingstone at Lake Malawi.

Livingstonias first house made of stones

It was the first house made of stones and the place where Dr Laws was living and working for 40 years. Nowadays there is a guesthouse and a small museum inside. The exhibition is quite interesting and gives some good information about the mission’s history and the beginning of the development of Livingstonia. There are also some original letters of Livingstone.

The "Industrial Block" was built at the beginning of the last century. There was a technical school inside. Nowadays there is a training centre for engineers.
