On our way from Kayes to the north we didn't see any other car on the tracks, but at the first part we saw some donkey carts.After we left town this was the first donkey cart we saw in the middle of nowhere. The friendly women smiled and waved at us. They were colourfully dressed and one of them had black tattoos at her face.
Most of the rural people in the Region of Kayes are pasturalists. On the dry and dusty plains we saw rather regularly boys and men with smaller and bigger herds of cows.So we saw this large herd of cows just at the northern edge of Kayes, but we saw also often herds suddenly appear in the middle of nowhere, not knowing where they come from or where they are going to.
North of the Port du Kayes along the main road we saw these streetvendors, sitting in the shade of a truck and selling all the same stuff.We didn't know, if they would stay there or would scatter all over town with their watches and other stuff for sale.
When we entered the citycentre of Kayes early morning, we were in the middle of all kinds of typical African streetscenes.Beautiful African women in colourful dresses with nice African prints. And of course, many women were wearing buckets, pans or other stuff at their heads. Also you will see many people in the morning with a piece of wood in their mouth, like the lady at the picture, to clean their teeth.
