As soon as you emerge from a hotel, stand in the street, get out of the car, these guys appear as from nowhere. This is particularly bad around the Hotel Djoliba and Hotel Auberge which are near the artisana market.
Now, not all these guys are bad, and you may get a good price on some of the goods. BUT if you just walk a little way you will find lots more choice in the artisanat - the market of local made goods.
Unique Suggestions: If you get really bothered by one of these guys, there is nothing for it but to be rude! They just don't understand 'no I am not interested', or 'merci' or 'demain' or any of the other things you might say. In the end just do not make eye contact, and ignore. If walking just walk to where you are going and ignore the pulling hand and cries of 'madame', 'monsieur'.
Fun Alternatives: Go to the artisan market in the roads near the Hotel Auberge. Lots and lots of small shops selling all the tourist trinkets and souvenirs you could want. Many small items, like leather sheathed knives and keyrings are cheap and easily portable as presents for friends.
