johnsakura Says: Old houses like this one are maybe hundreds of years old already and pass generation to generation. The wooden doors are amaing and many have an excelent hand work carved on them.

johnsakura Says: The road to Chinguetti from Atar used to be really bad. Now they have improved it and you can roll 120km if you want. There are a small part of the road close to the canyons that has asfalt.
johnsakura Says: this bike is swiss but i saw maybe 4 more bikes from spain. this seems to be an adventurous journey.
Local handicraft: Handicraft inside old town
johnsakura Says: you have many tents near the old mosque's wall selling stuff. books music necklaces, rings all you nedd to buy at very high prices of course. dont take the first price.
johnsakura Says: this is how a local house looks like in the new part of town. If you see the outside walls of a hosue thise is how it look inside. Usually houses have a patio and maybe 5 up to 6 different houses inside the walls.
johnsakura Says: Like elsewhere in the country all cities have goats hanging around the streets. They are free to go wherever they want and desire. This picture was taken inside the old town of Chinguetti not far from the old mosque. Here this house is destryoed.
johnsakura Says: Islam is the main religion in Mauritania. Remember the name of the country is: Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Islam here is very strong. If you're used to more relaxed countries like Morocco, you'll notice the difference here.
johnsakura Says: Many people in Chinguetti have a house in the new part of town along with another one in the middle of the desert a bit spread arround Chinguetti itself. This one is located 10km away from the town direction Atar.
johnsakura Says: Here's Nana, our friend taking milk out of the camel. You can see the little one trying to drink also.
johnsakura Says: People have camels to have milk which they drink a lot, and also to provide meat. Mauritanians eat a lot of camel meat.
johnsakura Says: Its incredible of how many different rock formation you can see on your way to Chinguetti. You can see all in term of mountains, from black mountains to big hills, or this ones here. very strange ones but very beautifull indeed.
johnsakura Says: thses landscape is very unusual. You can see the black mountains along with some blue rocks and some vegetation. Amazing palette of colours. very special. This should be one of the most beautiful rock formations with surrounding landscapes in the whole region of Adrar.
