Go to the Port de Peche, fishingboats come back in the afternoon. A few hundred meter north is a beach hotel (Hotel Sabah, bungalow 25000) with restaurant (sandwich UM 700, fish UM 3000).
From the city center by shared taxi UM 250.

This is the name used to speck about the town centre here in Nouakchott. If you which to go somewhere in the centre just ask directions for La Capitale.
Inside Nouakchott, the city centre is active and with entertaining market activities going on, mainly in the early hours of the day.

This is the biggest port in the country. The wholec ontry lives also from fishing. This is a great place to be in contact with locals.
Since its inauguration in 1984, the port of Nouakchott Mauritania ) has been run as a publicly owned monopoly. Unfortunately, the absence of competition has led the port to overstaffing. Moreover, labor regulation has caused high labor costs. The port has thus become costly and inefficient, and has lost market share to such West African ports as Dakar (Senegal) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast).
