Cansado Bay beach

by johnsakura

The beach here on the picture looks very nice. But somehow I managed to take all the garbage of the pic area. This area has tons of garbage that comes from the sea. Boats throw the garbage directly to the sea.

Cansado Bay bird watching

by johnsakura

Many birds (thrushes, pigeons, swallows and nightingales) pass through Mauritania on their migration route from Europe to Africa. Mauritania is a bird watcher's paradise: starlings, weaver birds, pelicans, cormorants, herons, terns and ducks are among the birds which can be seen. A variety species of birds can be found also in the Banc d'Arguin National Park. This all area of The Cab Blanc and Cansado is also full of birds variety.

This old ship has been here for a long time.As I walked on this beach I took my shirt out to get some color. I walked the all Cansado Bay unitl the ville of Nouadhibou. That probably 10 km.Temperatures here in Mauritania are always a bit high. ALthough I got a rainy day.

On your way to Cape Blanc, Cansado is one of the first settlements for fishermen that grew in the area in the begginings of the 20th century. For the last years, this ocean area has been used as garbage to large fishing ships.

Fish and more fish. The waters off the 754-kilometer-long coast of Mauritania are among the richest fishing grounds in the world. In 1986 estimates of the country's potential annual marine resources ranged between 400,000 and 700,000 tons. Mauritanian officials estimated the potential annual catch at 525,000 tons, a level close to that of Senegal, which had the largest fishing industry in West Africa. So expect to see hundreds of fish. Fish markets, dead fish on the beaches also. People here dont like a certain type of fish so they just throw it dead back to the water after they're caught in the nets. These fishes on the picture however are for eating. They belonged to this fishermen. He had them inside a bag but my friend just took them out and I made a hot of it.

This place here at "cabano" is very empty. No one lives here just a few guards and the acasional mistresses business going on. Somehow I also saw 2 groups of man making some kind of undergroud business. A car of chinese also passes. What on hearth did they want from this place. My friend just said: businesses. Just walk and ignore...

Thats a small amount of houses. This is why this place is called "cabano" due to this small houses that always existed and that now just a few are made of wood. Nowadays this is the perfect place for rich people to come with their misresses or prostitutes. On my way back i saw so many big cars passing with one man one woman or more women depending of the car. During the night the activity is even bigger.

Again beautiful scenery of the coast line of mauritania. When the water goes down and you can walk on the beach, is indeed nice to stay and relax for a couple of hours until the water comes up again. This is a very relaxed area near Nouadhibou. Away from the city rush cars and noise and people and garbage. Although the way from the airport here is one of the worse i've seen in terms of quantity of garbage per square metre.

Wonderful scenery this one of water melting yellow rocks. This somehow makes me think on my country somehow. The southern Portugal also have these kind of thing of water and rocks all over. This water here is very rich in fish. A friend told me than in one hour fishing you can get 20 fishes or more. For me that doesn't make any sense, my vegetarianism doesn alow it. ;o)
