To negotiate prices

by Pierangelo

To buy every thing (also one slip) I needed to adopt this method:I divided the price he told me for 3 then I negotiate till to reach the half price. For example, he says 3000 ouguiya, I say 1000, he 2500, me 1200, he 2000, me 1500 last price, he say no. Then I take the way without buy... after ten steps he run on my back and says ok, ok! Don't bring dollars

by johnsakura

If you enchnage dollars, you will loose lots of money on the process. Euros is what you need here. People dont trust dollars as they say its easier to fake and also because its lower than the euro. People will try to say, no no we dont enchange dollars and you say please please ok ok, so they will make you maybe 230UM up to 280UM for the dollar NKTapril 2004 1 dollar=320UMAtarapril 2004 1 dollar=300UM euros, bring euros to Mauritania

Exchange money

by johnsakura

NKT and NDB are the best places to exchange money. Anywhere else you want to exchnge some money people will rob you and you'll loose money on the exchnaging process. In NKT try to exchnage money on the big market. Always exchnage money on the black market of course. NDBdecember2003/january2004 1 euro=370UMapril 2004 1 euro=370UMNKTdecember2003/january2004 1 euros=380UMapril 2004 1 euro=380UMChinguetti/Atarapril 2004 1 euro=375UMChoumapril 2004 1 euro=300UMZoueratapril 2004 1 euro=375UMBir Moghreinapril 2004 1 euro=375UM Dont exchnage money has you arrive, if you really need it ask from the start for 380UM!!First time i got to Mauritania in NDB, I trusted the people from the hotel and they brought they're friend, Hotel ASIMEX, and they said ok ok no problem trust us and exchange money with our friend, instead of getting 1euro=380UM we got 1euro=320UM...

Write your business down

by johnsakura

if you agree with someone to do something, write it down and make that person sign the deal. after if that person changes the agreement you can go to the police and show the paper. ususaly people change the deals and you say "hey i didnt say that" and they say,no no, you said, NOW WE GO TO THE POLICE, and because they know you're afraid of the police they know you'll try to solve the problems. dont stress and agree on calling the police. dont be afraid of the police, if they say, lets go to the police, you say" Yes yes lets go to the police and yo'ull see! with this you already earned a few points of your discussion.

Taxis are between 200-300 oug.First prices at markets are very high.I recommend to calculate the 35-40 % of initial price as the final price (after discussion, of course).Boys and adults use to ask you for money and gifts. Be patient because it´s very common along this country. Try to give gifts when few people around because other way you will find yourself surrended by several persons.Take care when taking pictures, ask for permission or try to take them with maximum discrection.Take care at markets and beach, do not leave your bags or cameras alone. Take your money with you.
