Diesel in Port Louis: Get your Tax back!

by Weener Updated Mar 13, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    What to buy: Clothing mainly

What to pay: If you spend more than a certain amount of money (at time of writing 4000 rupees) you can obtain a tax form from the shop, and you'll be able to get your tax back when you get to the airport when you fly home (after youve checked in gone through security checks). Remember to take the clothing with you to show at the customs counter to get your tax back though

    PEM: Sculptures

by MFAMILY Written May 9, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

PEM is a sculptor who has a small shop at Caudan Waterfront.
He has already appeared on Air Mauritius inflight magazine, which he is proud of.
The day we met him he had just received a copy of a Hotel chain magazine (Beachcomber?) congratulating him for this birthday. Great day to have met him.
We ended up not by a small 50cm piece, but by a 1,7m high "self-portrait" sculpture, that is now in our living room. Gave us some trouble to bring home from Port Louis via London, where we still had a 3 day stopover to go to a concert at Wembley Arena. But we made it!!

What to buy: Basically he works with rough tree trunks and roots and makes very interesting works, to my likes. This is the kind of souvenir I like to take home.

What to pay: 4500 rupees for ours, which was fair enough.

In-house shop at Coralia Mont Choisy: Ship model in Mauritius

by vickss Written Jul 27, 2008

Its like any ordinary in-hotel shop..however unlike most oher such shops this un had some pretty decent priced stuff and after visiting some city shops I can say one can surely buy souveniers from here. Some of the products which were priced around Rs 500 at the ship factory shop was sellling at just Rs 200 odd bucks here.

What to buy: I bought few small ship models after getting ripped off at the factory shop. I think even some waterproof cameras were cheaper here

What to pay: Mauritian Rs 100 for a small(4-5 inch long) ship model..
