Port Louis, Mauritius

Port Louis is the only deep water harbour of Mauritius and is the island capital with a population of about 400,000 people. It is surrounded by mountains and the ocean. Famous things include the beautiful waterfront area, central market, various statues located in the city centre, governor's house and the horse racing course. I will share with you these information on my Port Louis VT page, so you can go there for more information.

Balaclava beach, Mauritius

The beach at the Turtle Bay, Balaclava is very nice and there are 2 hotels here, namely Hotel Maritim and Hotel La Plantation which I stayed. Besides the beach, there is impressive view of the mountains as well as a beautiful freshwater lake and ruins of the European colonial rule.

The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden at Pamplemousses is one of the attractions of Mauritius. There are many old and exotic trees and plants in this botanic garden, of which the giant amazon lily pool is the main attraction. More information is at my VT Pamplemousses page.

Le Morne peninsula, Mauritius

Le Morne is a small peninsula located on the south-west of Mauritius which is dominated by the Le Morne mountain. There are some beach resorts here, and this area is characterised by strong winds blowing from the south. As such, Le Morne is very good for activities involving wind such as para-sailing, sailing, surfing etc.

Beach at Ile Aux Cerfs, Mauritius

This is a very nice island located off the east coast of Mauritius and famous among tourists. It can be reached from a short boat ride from Mauritius and is famous for its clean and fine sand, as well as a natural lagoon with very shallow and clear waters protected from the ocean waves.

Best beach for swimming in Mauritius

Mont Choisy beach, Mauritius

To me and a lot of other people, the best beach for swimming in Mauritius is the one at Mont Choisy somewhere in between Trou Aux Biches and Grand Baie in north-western Mauritius. This is a public beach with beautiful sand, crystal clear waters without corals and there is not much strong waves here.
